Need Cheap Antivirus Software
Posted on 02/24/2005 5:36:52 PM PST by Jack of all Trades
I'm giving one of my old computers to my sister, but I don't have an antivirus program to install on it. Is there a cheap or free antivirus program out there that I can use on a WIN2K box? I run NIS 2005 on my own machine, but that's $70. NAV 2005 is $50. Is it worth it to cheap out, or should I spend the money?

First time I ran AVG it caught stuff that Norton was ignoring.I ditched all Norton ($$) anti-virus software on our computers in favor of AVG Free Anti-Virus also. Seems to do a great job.

Yeah, when my Norton subscription expires on a machine, I switch over to AVG. Works like a charm.

How do you connect to the internet, i.e., Cable, DSL, dial-up? Try resetting/restarting your modem. Leave the modem turned off for 5 or 10 minutes and then turn it back on and reboot. Let me know if that does the trick.

Thanx
Uninstalled AVG, rebooted 3 times, turned off for 1/2 hour, System Restore 3 different dates.
Dial-up, and do connect, but won't let me sign-in, tries 5 times.
6.0 let me just uninstall. Have Windows XP

I had a similar problem. The first time I ran AVG, it deleted a Trojan, Rundll. Rundll had changed my internet connection settings but as long as it was there, I could still connect.
Once it was deleted, I couln't go anywhere. IE couldn't connect and would say, "page can't be found". Mozilla, on the other hand, said my proxy settings were wrong.
Try internet option--connections and fiddle around in there.

Thanx! I had a trojan. Give it a shot later.
