You might be freepy but they are creepy
Of course, like any community, we have our nutcases and our disagreements. On the whole, though, FREE REPUBLIC is worlds apart from liberal "discussion" groups.
Besides, as the descendant of an Acadian, I'm still waiting for my reparations from Le Grand Dérangement!
Ciao MadIvan,
Some I agree. Especially Fabrizio Quattrocchi, a true hero who didn't even get a proper State Funeral. He is actually very much emblematic of the Italian character, which, despite the bad fame of Italian soldiers, can at the very bitter end have its moment of looking death in the face courage.
Mostly we are happy, hedonistic charlatans, easy to smile and always joking, believing (pretending to believe) in nothing. But then in the end, there can be a surprising strength. Quattorcchi was like that. "Now I'll show you how an Italian dies!"
The Olive Tree Coalition is quite similar to what has happened to the USA democrats... a great and shocking infiltration of cartoon characters who have completely forgotten what rationality, reason, moderation, patience, tolerance, and fairplay is in politics. They instead demonize and use and abuse character assassination. Like in some circles the name (the phoneme) "Bush" already says it all (like saying Frankenstein), so too has the crazy Italian left made "Berlusconi" like a curse word.
Oriana is brilliant and you know she is sincere, speaking right from the heart because the poor woman is dying so what good is money from the CIA or the Mossad or from even her publisher? It is like a last will.
Islam is simply not compatible. It is the exact opposite of the wine, women and song of Italy.
Brussels is a nightmare, but reformable and a united Europe is better than endless wars between Utah and Nevada, Michigan against Wisconsin.
I don't know economic theory. For now all I can tell you is that the changeover to the Euro has been hard, especially on the poorer people. I am not wealthy and I have made many mistakes in my life, so I feel the hit. But here in Italy we used to have the Lira which was so ridiculous that a car would be calculated in millions! A bus ride in thousands. A good house in the city in billions.
Welcome to Free Republic!
Back to the Top or Bump to the top.
Nice summary!
The phrase would be more ethnic appropriate if you were to make reference to burying the tomahawk. Either way, you would be labeled a vile right-wing racist for use of such a metaphor with it's implied (a tad more subtle in your version) slur. After all there's no need to remind the Native American community, and those wannabes such as Prof. Ward Churchill, of their recent ties to the Stone Age (or even Iron Age), and to hint at savage practices that could have never occurred amongst the peaceful people who dwelled serenely before some linguini-lapping white European brought chaos to Eden in 1492. And never, NEVER, perform the tomahawk chop at an Atlanta Braves baseball game, or the Great Spirit will condemn you to an afterlife of great pain and suffering.
I was following the thread where you were very VERY eloquent in the points you were making. I'm not a bit surprised you were banned. I was banned at one point because they had posted a picture of my cousin, who was killed in Iraq on Jan 4, on one of their anti-America and anti-war threads. I asked them to take it off and related that my cousin would not want his picture or name associated with that cause. I too was banned. However, I've come back in a different incarnation.
Anyway, I thought you handled yourself very well and were very respectful of their views while pointing out your counter arguements.
I can more or less vouch for her. I was watching the thread and she was making a very convincing counter argument, which was what got her banned. They really didn't like her well thought out arguments. Additionally, she was bringing a truly "global" perspective that the DUers love to claim they have.
Weclome to the Free Republic. Try some Cherry Coke, you might like it!
Welcome to FR
Link to the thread?
Using the same screen name, starting at post 27. I'm surprised the thread is still there:

*chuckle* Sounds like the criteria I use for keeping people as close friends.
Welcome to FR; it's a pleasure to meet you. We will never forget the friendship of Italy in these last few years, nor the courage of her people.
I believe we were all impressed by Quattrocchi's strength; not a single negative statement regarding the courage of the Italian people has passed my eyes since his death, and rightly so.
The Olive Tree Coalition is quite similar to what has happened to the USA democrats... a great and shocking infiltration of cartoon characters who have completely forgotten what rationality, reason, moderation, patience, tolerance, and fairplay is in politics.
Similar? It sounds like a precise clone of the Democrats. Of course they too have Communists in their ranks.
Oriana is brilliant and you know she is sincere, speaking right from the heart because the poor woman is dying so what good is money from the CIA or the Mossad or from even her publisher? It is like a last will.
Precisely.
Islam is simply not compatible. It is the exact opposite of the wine, women and song of Italy.
Long may it reign.
Brussels is a nightmare, but reformable and a united Europe is better than endless wars between Utah and Nevada, Michigan against Wisconsin.
I think your country and mine (Britain), have discovered that the French and Germans are carrying on warfare by different means in the context of the EU.
I can understand the virtue of simplification, but the Turks recently accomplished this with the "heavy lira" without resort to using the Euro. I was in Rome before the changeover and while it was a bit crazy carrying a wallet stuffed full of notes - at least it was genuinely Italian money. :)
Welcome again.
Regards, Ivan
Welcome to FreeRepublic.com, Hudobna .....
Welcome to FR.
Stay away from that toxic DUmp.
If you think (as you suggest) that people ought to be held in account for what they do...meaning various forms of individual responsibility...
Then welcome to the republican party. You are now part of the vast right wing conspiracy...
Responsibilty means 1) like you mention (not blaming people now for something done 200 years ago, etc etc) 2) even if bad things happen its still your responsibilty to be a good member of society. No playing the blame game...
Or as I like to say, "You can not change what has happened, only what will happen"
