That sort of thing happens, especially with older kids who have been in more than one foster home and have been sexually abused. They learn to play the system, and they can be very manipulative. and will do whatever it takes to get their way. It's all about them, you know. Future democRATs if I ever saw any. They've never learned that there are consequences for their actions and they are so damaged anyway that they are completely focused on self-preservation, even though it is really self-destruction, and they don't even think about the effect their actions could have on somebody else. It is tragic, because you can understand how they got to be the way they are, but at the same time, you can't allow them to get away with it. Foster parents have a really tough job.
Off topic? Don't be silly. there is no "off topic" here.
lol! But our topics have been the weather and us wimin needin' to beat up those vile creatures called "menfolk"! : )
I most strongly agree!
I had to testify last week in another county in a custody case. The two attorneys involved were hilarious. They had the courtroom cracking up. Even the judge had his head in his hands and was shaking his head. The mom's attorney was over the top with her sarcasm, and the dad's attorney was a real @$$hole, trying to make a case where there wasn't one, but he was really entertaining in the process because some of the "evidence" he was trying to build his case on was so lame, as were some of his objections during testimony. It would have made a great comic skit.
Stay safe, all.
We had a motto regarding bad cases ( or no case at all):
"You can't polish a turd".
We try.....usually.
Take care.
In weather like you're having, the only thing worth accomplishing is staying warm!
Then you might appreciate this:
and this one,
Bradshaw v. Unity Marine Corporation, Inc., et al
Civil Action No. G-00-558, 2001 WL 739951 (S.D. Tex. June 27, 2001)
Okay, we're waiting to hear the lunch menu from the filming crew. No grilling today, I take it.
I gotta do some house chores, and work on a quilt top I need to get done in the next couple of weeks (for my youngest's birthday in March).
Back later now. Behave, sl!!
Here's a bit more about our trip to DC. I'm SO GLAD we decided to come home early. It was lesson enough for us to observe how the area responded to an inch of snow on Wednesday. We didn't need a demonstration of 5-9 inches, LOL.
A few more recollections about the FReeper Ball before I resume unpacking, laundry etc. There was about an hour long program of FR awards, acknowlegements etc. before the entertainment started. Some of the highlights were Jerome Corsi, Interesting Times, Buckhead, TankerKC among others. Kristinn was the emcee and Nick Danger presented the FR awards.
I mentioned sauropod's video earlier. It was a super effort, his first at such a project if I heard correctly. It tried to show what FR is about, highlights etc. I'd love to have a copy, am going to see if they are available.
A color guard who was in the Inaugural parade presented the colors at the FReeper Ball. This was the first event actually. There was an entertainer who sang impressions of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Lou Rawls etc. before Gov. Huckabee's band started. Sorry, I don't recall the name of the impressionist but he was very good.
Gov. Huckabee's band played lots of rock and roll, dancing music and the FReepers were not a bit shy about taking to the dance floor. Everybody had a lot of fun at the dance. There were several men in uniform in attendance. Very nice to see. One of the parts of the program was a salute to each branch of the military service, also a nice touch.
Three Iraqi's accompanied Kristinn to the party and gave short speeches of thanks, appreciation etc. If I heard correctly, one of them is a candidate of some sort in the upcoming election. He had only been in this country about a day before the Ball. I really don't know all the details of why he was here, when he was returning etc. Perhaps it was an official visit of some sort??
That's all I can think of at the moment. At some point we will try to get some pictures out, but what with dealing with the snow, getting packed and re-packed it's likely to take some time.

Sounds like a great time. I would love to have been there.
It was a lot of fun, Libby. My only regrets are that I didn't have time to meet more FReepers. There just wasn't enough time and so much going on.
If I even went to something like this again, I'd take a pen light along too. It was hard to read FReeper nametags on the darkened dance floor once the music got going. Live and learn....

<- nicmarlo The funniest legal thing I've read in a long time. Thanks.
You got freepmail!
Funny that, I was just about to report on the lunch:
Soup: Corn chowder southwest style
Salad: Fields greens with your choice of dressing
Entre: I chose the herb-crusted baked talapia, with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted root veggies.
I may ask for an application to go to work for this film crew...knowing that the pay would be nothing, but I would eat large.
