With some time on my hands today I caught the flick "White Noise." The critics hated it. They are wrong. It's a tight, scary, fast-moving film with a lot of surprises.
I have no connection with the film and just wanted to set the record straight, especially after seeing part of the "Golden Globes" show last night, at which European critics (hah!) wet themselves over some really terrible films.
We need to start licensing movie critics! How much longer can this epidemic of bad reviews go unchecked?? We owe it to the children!
If Aliens in Flying Saucers wanted Earth, the result would be no different. After the initial slaughter, Earthlings would be a diminished, largely forgotten people, laughed at and pitied by other creatures of the universe.
"That film was great when you view it from an American Indian perspective. It gives me a torn attitude between our invasion of their lands and our zeal for progress and liberty (for ourselves as former pheasants). "
DWW: It was good as propoganda, but bad history and so-so as movie.
Costner is the best bad Hollywood actor since Gary Cooper.
It's amazing how he can fit a 90 minute movie into 3 hours.

I see about 200 movies per year because I have an unlimited free-movie pass. I see just about everything. I estimate that, with about 90 percent certainty, the critics are exactly wrong. I love what they hate. I hate what they love.
The critics love movies that normalize homosexuality, demean Christianity, and prop-up feminist, socialist or environmentalist dogma.
As for Christian Bale - I have enjoyed every one of his films. The critics have panned all of them. The Machinist, playing a few places now is really wonderful and with a surprisingly wholesome theme about personal responsibility. Something that is poison to the critics.
No doubt. The standard should be set to where a critic needs at least a simple majority of votes in the UN Security Council for a Movie Critic License ;-)
Yep, you're right there. LOTR are some of the best films I've ever seen.
Heard it's a pretty good book too. ;)
Please cite recent examples of your hypothesis. The best reviewed American movies of last year were Sideways, The Aviator, Before Sunset, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Million Dollar Baby. None of them fit your one-size-fits-all theory.
"...I thought H&K was pretty funny..."
There is nothing funny about Heckler & Koch products. They are serious tools for serious people.

I would advise you to do further research on the topic.
Argh. ;-)
Remember what he did to the Chief with the explosives "packed in", I was sitting there hoping that's what he was gonna do when they drove away at the end, heh.
"...like some silly combo remake of The Ring and Final Destination... both better movies."
I am a total chicken-chit when it comes to scarey movies, but I was enthralled by "The Ring." I also loved "The Others" and I never saw the twist coming (which is just the best, isn't it?)
Haven't seen "Final Destination" but DH said it was really good.
(I'm more of a reader, so I thought this thread was about "White Noise" by Don DeLillo and I was curious as to how they'd adapt that to film.)
Heh, I did to. Freakshow rules! rofl. You gotta take those movies for what they are and not try to read anything beyond it. Kinda like Van Wilder.
I went with my wife and in-laws when it came out. We thought with the cast it HAD to be good. About half way through we were looking at each other as if to say "Is THIS the worst movie ever, or what? We paid HOW MUCH for the tickets and popcorn?? Is it almost over???"
Thanks for the review. I had heard that it was disappointing but was interested in seeing for myself. I have always enjoyed Michael Keaton so I just may go.
I dont want to spoil the movie for those who haven't had the pleasure but I was reminded of the saying" Only through true sacrifice may one achieve redemption." or something like that. There wasn't a bad scene in the movie and Denzel was great.
Yes, it was a thrill ride like an Indiana Jones movie. I commented to those I was with and people that worked at the theatre that this movie was proof that Hollywood CAN make a good, fun, CLEAN film when they want to.
If you think Kate Beckinsale, whether speaking or not, is "torture," then my friend there is no hope.
My husband and I hated Van Helsing. We turned it off after 10 minutes and watech The Terminal. We had rented both movies.
I'm starting to believe the critics. They also said The Stepford Wives was bad, and it was horrible.
I'm not taking my kids to go see A Series of Unfortunate Events because the critics say it's bad. We may rent it eventually.
I thought National Treasure was a good family flick for families with older children that have outgrown Disney flicks. My kids are 8 & 10, and they like action flicks. We all enjoyed National Treasure.
