After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
no connection. there have been hurricanes, eathquakes and such for thousands of years. no sense in getting all apocalyptic about it now.
Its as silly as the Broncos not making it to the Superbowl this year. :-)
I see your post but I'm kind of tired right now. I'll read it later. I have a couple of questions for you too.
Where are they when they could really be a help?
Some one should be there recording names and giving ID numbers on wrist bands that can be correlated with others who are looking for loved ones.
It makes me want to head out there and try do something for these people.
I wonder if these people have other relatives or friends that could come and pick them up at a determined spot?
We certainly are going to learn a lot on handling national emergencies that we had never anticipated before from this.

It seems the Guard is controlling access and not allowing private citizens to go into the city.

How odd is it that, overnight, Baton Rouge became the largest city in Louisiana?
Nevermind that, where the hell is the red stick?
(By way of background, I was once in Painted Post, NY (a suburb and subsidiary of Corning) and I never was even once offered a chance to see the painted post. )

2 Thess 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
Would someone tell me what this means to them, especially the last part of verse 7? Who is it on the earth today who is preventing Satan from completely releasing his evil upon man?
I think (he) may be Michael and the Wicked are

Hey, thought you might be interested to see me on my horse trying to get him use to letting me lower a sponge into water then reel it back up to cool him off:)
I'm going to be competing on him next week end for the first time, and this is a good trick for them to be able to do. He didn't like it at first, but got use to it.

These are all from Long Slide Falls, in Marinette County in northern Wisconsin. It is called "long slide" because the falls run a length of about 1/4 mile, and the vertical drop is a good 30-40 feet. Marinette County has an abundance of waterfalls from streams which drop from the highlands down into the Menominee River, and eventually into Lake Michigan.
This is from the top of the falls, looking upstream:
While I was at the falls, there were five bald eagles circling overhead:
The next several pictures are from the falls themselves. The water level was low enough that I could climb down and stand on dry rocks right in the middle of the falls. Unfortunately, it is impossible to truly capture the scene on camera, but these give an idea.
This is a view from the top of the bluff, looking out over the valley below:
Yes, the leaves are beginning to show color already. Actually, I noticed color on a few trees when I was up there two weeks ago.
We are just beginning to see Eagles returning to the Merrimac River. This year a pair of Eagles hatched and were watched (the location was kept secret from the public) all summer.
A few weeks ago the smaller one was seen on the ground and unable to fly. The speculation was "she" had been pushed out by her bigger brother or had fallen in an abortive attempt to fly. (He had already flown on his own).
She was skinny and apparently couldn't catch her own food or fly on her own. A sad ending for one more little Eagle?
No, she was captured and put back in the nest, her parents watching all the time. After a few days they began feeding her, she grew stronger, and has since flown away. An apparent happy ending!

I drafted Willie Parker, Duce Staley and the Pittsburgh D on my fantasy team this year.
Out of approximately 100,000 people who stayed through the hurricane in New Orleans, -------
How many did so because they were alcoholics and didnt want to lose their ability to stay sopped?
How many were druggies and didnt want to lose the ability to shoot up and get High?
How many smokers knew they wouldnt be free to smoke in the shelters?
How many wanted to stay and loot all the stores, and their neighbors home?
How many thought it would be one long party with no one there to bother them?
How many had animals that their safety made the final decision to stay?
How many were simply ignorant?
What kind of a mother or father, with little children would decide to stay?
How many cars did they own, that had enough gas to have driven north out of harms way until they could see what was to come?
If the mayor had decided to physically make everyone leave, how many shootings would there have been, and how many people would they have actually been able to move out?
What if their making the people leave became a disaster, and many were killed along with policemen, and at the last moment Katrina veered off and nothing happened to New Orleans?

What nice story:). We occasionally see Eagles along the river. Pictures just don't do them justice:)

I was gonna suggest Willie Parker to ya, cause he's fast and he's gonna get a lot of work while Staley and Bettis are injured. People are gonna try to stop the running game and keep Ben in the pocket and force him to pass. And the D scored a lot during preseason and played pretty well.

Some people seem to be taking from this that in an emergency you can not expect the gov't to do everything. Some want to try (in vain) to "correct" this situation. The smart ones will realize this will always be so, no matter how much money we throw in to trying to fix the problem. We could have built mile-high levees in NO, and a hurricane would have hit some other spot.

I'm hoping Parker plays so well that they are reluctant
to relegate him to backup status again.......lol.
