The Neverending Story

The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

I checked his FR posting history. That's the date of his last post.

Hi all------It'll be six months on the 26th. I still have a big hole in my heart-- but it's still functioning.

Last Sunday was the first day that I had something to look forward to when I woke up. I have a new and much closer relationship with God then I ever thought possible.

Thanks for your prayers and concern.

Jim H

It's so good to hear from you Jim. We have all thought of you a lot!

Things have been mighty slow here for a while. Summer doldrums?

Please drop in now and then. It's just possible you could light a little fire under us.

Actually I think all the people who used to give me hell have become closet Unitarians. :)

Did you see my Whale pictures on #3463? I think they are fabulous. I'd rather see whales than spiders, snakes, and scorpions. :)

We pretty much exhausted the old topics. I guess we really are a 'chat' thread now! ;o)

The only thing living on borrowed time is the Patriots. Tune in tonight to see this year's Super Bowl champs.

Great game wasn't it? I think the Patriots will be fine this year. It's the Red Sox that concern me. They appear to be folding like a cheap suit.

Once a whale surfaced about 5 feet in front of the boat. That was a surprise! Most of the pictures I sent were within 50 feet or less.

When there is whale activity you generally drift with your engines in neutral and hope the whale(s) surface near your location.

On this day we were very lucky to find whales feeding in one area and staying in that general area for a long time.

It was an awesome day. I have seen (perhaps) hundreds of whales in my life but have never seen their "fishing & feeding" techniques up so close.

I think the Pat's will be pretty good but don't forget you need the breaks to go your way in order to repeat. I'm looking forward to the new season. The only sad thing is that it leads to winter. Brrr.

I'm not a baseball fan so the only thing I look for is the end of the baseball season. :)

I've seen free dolphins up close but never whales. Maybe someday.

You got some neat pictures, particularly the last one. Those are hard pictures to get, I know from experience, particularly with a digital camera that lags a couple seconds behind the action :~D It's easy to be looking the wrong direction and catch nothing but the splash after the fact.

Well I didn't take them, my friend did. She had a new, fast camera, and she got pretty good at anticipating the action. Still she took about 60 pictures and missed the action on about half of them. Also we were lucky that this particular whale was using a bubble blowing technique and we knew she would either come up through the bubble circle with her mouth wide open or, alternately, come to the surface and "lunge" through the bubble circle.

All in all, we were very lucky.

Whale in half the shots and you're lucky!

We are out amongst a pod of killer whales once, who move in a rising porpoising kindof motion, and we were lucky to get the tip of the fin disappearing under the water ;~D

You have to come North to see the whales feeding. They fatten up here and head back down South, when the water begins to cool off, to have their babies. While down south they don't eat. Nada. Nothing. They survive on their blubber.

Listen to the whales. Northern seafood is much, much, much better tasting than warm water seafood.

I've heard that. The furtherest I've eaten fish is probably hmm.... Kentucky. I know for a fact though that the further south you get the better the Mexican food is:')
