The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

Back in the good old days (60's - 70's) I had to fly coast to coast quite frequently. Since we were flying on our own time one of our perks was to fly first class. During a "belt tightening" period the company stopped booking us in first class but, since we had company credit cards, we would change to first class at the airport.

The damned bean counters got wise to that and took away our company charge cards.

The funny thing is, even though we again became prosperous, the first class perks never came back. We were expected to fly the damned night owls and report to work asap. I'm glad I don't work for a living any more. I just wish I was younger and wealthier without having to work!

You never know where you're going to pick up information. Funny, too, how you'll often, after learning something new, have it come up again soon after.

That is so very true, in fact he made a similar comment. When I picked him up today he said he thought he did well on today's test. He said that it mostly contained things from one of the computer games he likes to play called Europa Universalis.

This doesn't mean that I won't ever make a choice which is inconsistent with my chosen life-direction, ... but the overall trend of my day-to-day choices will affirm my life-choice.

But, you still affirm that life choice, one by one by one. One choice at a time.

And my life-choice directs those day-to-day choices.

Isn't it funny how it works. My husband not very studious(is that a word?) He was an LVN before becoming an RN. We drove from here to Ausin for him to test. The computer stops the test when it determines you know enough to pass or don't know enough and shuts down. All the way per his instructions I reviewed and quizzed him while he whined and complained, 'if I don't know by now"... but wanting me to keep going. We were reviewing head injuries and being a rehab nurse I started talking about the way to tell if drainage , spinal cord fluid is to test for sugar. He remarked he didn't know that but just stick to stuff that might be on the test. After the test he came out grinning and told me he hoped I knew what I was talking about because the last question he answered before the computer shut him down was what do you test fluids for if you suspect a head injury:')

Thanks for the congratulations.

I think I did pretty good on the test today.

Some of the questions were things that I learned on a computer game called Europa Universalis 2.

There was one question that concerned Sarawak.

Ok. Well the oldest has always been difficult about hair cuts. They used to bring him to me because I would get the job done and pay for it too, probably. With 3 now though it was too expensive and my son bought clippers. He told me next time he would use a # 3 on the top. I came home a couple of weeks ago and he had them out in the garage. Red hair all over the place. The 4 y/o screaming for his hair and his dad was just going to quit and leave the back there. He thought it looked "cool" My son the hippie. After awhile he finished up.

I'll try to keep up the good work.

I'm online right now because I got to find the dates of some Revolutionary War events for school, and info on Napoleon for a book report for English.

The teacher gives us extra credit if we dress up as the person we did our report on when we give our presentation on our book report.

Plus, I need to look for projects to do for the Science Olympiad.

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29, KJV)

t seems pretty clear that in this passage the author is stating that the rewards and punishments of the afterlife are based upon works. See also Matthew chapter 25. How do you reconcile this passage with others which emphasize faith/the role of Jesus?

I'll tell you how I would have reconciled this back in the day although worded differently now. The "they that have done good part" is the intellectual acknowledgement of the "truth" in an event that happened two thousand years ago. The "they that have done evil" part are those that are blinded and can't grasp the "truth" of this event and the way NT writers have spun it. In a nutshell.

Are you going to be cleaning the windows yourself? High rises?

I was telling them on the horse thread that I've started a consulting business. I have ONE customer right now. I'm taking off 2 weeks in Feb and going to make the rounds at other facilities. I'm really good at what I do but I'm basically very quiet and I hate networking. I was just going to mail out introduction letters but Eddie felt I ought to do it in person:'(

Yep, that's about what I would have guessed. The only thing is that it says "done good" and "done evil", which would ordinarily seem to imply something more than acceptance or rejection of a particular set of beliefs.

Probably some myself in the beginning, but I've already hired a cleaner full time. Three stories and below for liability purposes, 80% commercial.

Eddie is right. That's a big part of the busines I'm getting into...cold calls. Going to the businesses and bidding on jobs. Good luck in your business too.
