After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
The air conditioning kicked on a few times over the weekend. Last night I had to run the furnace. Spring in Wisconsin! If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes, it'll change.
We have dumbbells too. You're right about them not being as stable. I'm always afraid I'm going to bash myself in the face when I use them:)
It's been close to 90 here the last few days, and very humid, and we haven't even thought about the AC yet. It usually is only sort of uncomfortable for a few hours a day. Yesterday if you just stayed in the shade it wasn't bad at all.

Ugh. I'm used to the climate in the upper Midwest, so that sounds awful. We average only 7 days a year above 90°. Last year was exceptionally cool, and we only broke 80° half a dozen times. The hottest summer I can remember, we were above 90° a little over 30 days, with 4-5 days over 100°.
I'm guessing we tolerate the cold a little better than ya'll do, though. Its all matter of what you get used to.
I don't like the humidity. But I do fine in temps to about 93-95, after that I'm looking for the AC:)
It would be nice to the weather stay in the 70-80 range all the time. That would be the best.
Becky
I like the change of seasons, I just wish the swings weren't so severe. Winter highs in the 30s and 40s, and summer highs in the 70s and 80s would be nice. Oh, and while I'm at it, let's make winter a little shorter, too. :o)
Pope Benedict XVI gives thumbs up to beer
VATICAN -- You might think the new pope would prefer water or wine, but Pope Benedict XVI has given the thumbs up to ... beer.
Thanks to the pope, a German brewery is enjoying new success thanks to his "endorsement."
A Stuttgart brewery had been struggling to sell its wheat beer, until pictures showed then-Cardinal Ratzinger enjoying the brew every once in a while.
So when the new pope was elected, white smoke not only emerged from the Sistine Chapel, but from the brewery's chimney as well.
This past weekend, the brewery sent a beer truck to Rome delivering 185 gallons of beer to the pope.
Maybe he'll serve it to visiting dignitaries. :o)
Considering that David was annointed and he is NOT in heaven, makes it all the more UNLIKELY that Mary was assumpted to heaven. The absence of any mention of it indicates that she was not.
When you pray to the dead asking them to pray for you, what do you think they accomplish with their prayers? What is their role and to WHOM are they praying?
It's only about 1500 pints. Wait till they get the first Irish pope.

Who told you David was not in Heaven? For that matter, who told you being "annointed" was a greater honor than being Theotokos?
SD
Like all prayers, they help to unite us to God and to align our wills with His.
What is their role and to WHOM are they praying?
Concerned bystander and God.

Paul.
"Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is BOTH DEAD AND BURIED, and his sepulcher is with us UNTO THIS DAY For DAVID IS NOT ASCENDED INTO THE HEAVENS " Acts 2:29 & 34 (1st part).
"For the living know that they shall die: but the dead KNOW NOT ANY THING, neither have they any more a reward: for the memory of them is forgotten. Also THEIR LOVE, AND THEIR HATRED, AND THEIR ENVY, IS NOW PERISHED. Neither have they any more a portion forever in any thing that is done under the sun." Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
The dead have nothing to do with the living.
Isaiah 8:19 (New International Version)
19 When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
Do you consider all these verses to be in error like the one below?
1 Ti 2:5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Are they intervening? Acting as mediators, intercessors? Are they familiar spirits wo whom you pray?
Try reading the whole thing and not just cherrypicking parts of verses. Peter is here (at Pentecost, this Sunday) saying that David did not ascend into Heaven until Jesus had defeated death.
Do you consider all these verses to be in error like the one below?
You are the one in error. We understand Scripture as written, not as verses plucked out of the ether. The Old Testament books describe the situation before Christ came. Now that Christ has opened the Heavens those passages are no longer describing a true situation. Things have changed, alleluia!
And for what it's worth, asking another to pray for you does not mean that christ is not the only mediator. People pray for each other all the time. This is the silliest of arguments.

You do know what "messiah" means, right? ;o)
I know the Italians had a lock on the papacy for nearly 500 years, until the election of JPII, but it still amazes me that there hasn't been an Irish pope.
