The Neverending Story

The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

There's no way I could ever forget that.

Hi Bigmack.

Yes I got a job at the Post office and didn't like it and am going back to my original engineering job. I thought I didn't want to do software engineering anymore but after 4 months away, I realize that's what I want to do.

Old man, you got your three wheeler all polished up so you can go back to cruising for chicks? :)

Actually I've had it out about four times in the past few weeks. We had a period of nice 50 degree and sunny days. At the moment it is snowing like crazy so I guess it'll remain parked for a while.

I might be cruising for chicks but the only people who honk their horns and give me a big thumbs up tend to be big fat motorcyclists. :-)

When I was a young feller I used to keep my boat in the water year round. When we'd get the unusual warm sunny day in the winter we'd all jump on sombody's boat and go for a ride. Now I do the same thing 'cept it is on a tricycle. Isn't it wonderful to get old?

Next big thing for me? Probably doing the same thing on my motorized wheelchair.

We were supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow today, and ended up with more like 7-8. So my shovel and I spent some quality time together today. ;o)

Well you sent it to us. When I went to bed at midnight the forecast was for between 4" - 7", ending about 3PM today.

There is already 4" and the forecast now calls for it to end abought midnight tonight.

I sure hope it stays cold. Fluffy snow = OK! Wet snow - ugh!

Ours was moderately heavy and wet. If it had been 15° colder, we would have gotten another 4" from the same moisture.

I've been working all day on this damn computer, it was fine yesterday and today when I turned it on it ran so slooooooooooooooooooo, every thing took forever to load.

I ran spybot, ad-awareSE6, it was clean, then I ran all the Norton stuff and that finally cleaned it up, but even the spybot, as-aware and norton ran SLOW, it took me from 11am till 515pm to run just these programs.

Wonder what the hell happened from yesterday to today?

So Dave how about that "24"?

I was reading the thread here they have every Mon. night. What do you think of Audrey? I haven't liked her from the start. Not sure why, I just don't like her. Is she another Kimmy always needing rescueing, or is she a bad guy?

I do like Edgar:)

I thought that one girl, can't think of her name, the spy at CTU would be another Sherry Palmer, but hey, she's already out of it.

Just maybe Sarah IS another Nina too.

Yikes! What a mess. You'll probably never figure out where the bad stuff came from. Do you have anti-virus software running in the background all the time, or do you just do periodic scans? What about a firewall?

I didn't have any virus, I ran speed disk on Norton, that was the problem.

I just can't figure how it was fine one day and then so messed up the next.

I've been working all day on this damn computer, it was fine yesterday and today when I turned it on it ran so slooooooooooooooooooo, every thing took forever to load.

The same kind of thing happened to me and I found a program which was using about 99% of my (512mb) memory.

If (when) it happens again take a look at your Windows Task Manager to see what is running.

Ctrl-Alt-Del will bring up the Task Manager:
Look at the Applications.
Look at the Processes.
Look at the Performance.

At this time just look. You want to find what is hogging your resources. When, and if you find one process using most of your memory the next step may or may not be a "kill the sumbitch" one.

It could also be a simple thing like a disk which is all scattered to a farethewell and requires a cleanup. Running the Norton stuff, among other things, defragmented your disk and, if it was a mess, would result in a speed pickup.

So Dave how about that "24"?

How about it? I'm not sure I like it on Mondays. It makes the rest of the week seem too long. But I'm adjusting.

I was reading the thread here they have every Mon. night. What do you think of Audrey? I haven't liked her from the start. Not sure why, I just don't like her. Is she another Kimmy always needing rescueing, or is she a bad guy?

She's a little daft, I think, but harmless. The perfect doe-eyed damsel for Jack to rescue.

I do like Edgar:)

This actor was on the Sopranos before, apparently. The folks at televisionwithoutpity.com call him "Lispy Skip," and I think it's a perfect name. If you ever miss an episode or a detail, they post re-caps of the show there, with a highlight on general mockery. There is also a discussion board.

I liked it a couple weeks ago when Jack and Tony stopped that guy at the helicopter and he tried to bribe them with a "Who are you working for? FBI?"

Tony snarks back "Actually, I'm unemployed right now." Ha.

I wonder if Michelle will show up since Tony's getting it back together.

Well, we'll have to see if Audry turns out to be harmless,,,I still don't like her and think Jack could do alot better:)

I like it on Mon. Mon.'s are so yucky anyway it give you something to look forward to on an otherwise crappy day:)

Realistically, four more months to get my green.

Probably the latter. We've already had one nuclear power plant melt down and several more are pending. Unless Jack can save the day.

Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice victory over the Soviets. I taped the game to watch over the weekend.
