The Neverending Story

The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

The most important book JP II ever read "Saint Louis Marie de Montfort’s True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary".

You can't invoke the name of de Montfort without pinging biblewonk. It's the law. ;o)

What is JP II's motto?

Si fueris Romae, Romano vivito more?

And you hate the pope so much you assume that he is including the Bible as a "less important" book?

That's stupid and insulting.

I don't hate the Pope and you know that. Why do you resort to the same tired old tactics when you are backed into your semantics corner?

Is the Catechism a book? Is it equal to the Bible? Is it equal to "Saint Louis Marie de Montfort’s True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary"?

Veni, vidi, vici?

Please, you know this poor ignorant fool doesn't speak or read Latin. Does that translate to "Totally Yours"?

I don't hate the Pope and you know that.

Then why do you resort to misrepresenting him?

Please, you know this poor ignorant fool doesn't speak or read Latin. Does that translate to "Totally Yours"?

"I came, I saw, I conquered"

Malakhi's is "When in Rome, do as the Romans do"

I don't know what IMRight was saying.

"I came, I saw, I conquered"

You don't recognize when I'm pulling your leg.

Now, can you truthfully state the Pope's motto?

You've confued two threads. That was "Bush's moto".

As for Nicea? We aren't counting the wait staff or luggage teams... they don't get a vote... nor do we have a clue what they believed. The number of participants is rarely cited above 300 (usually fewer).

There is definitely a law there. I find it very interesting that that is the last book the pope read. What a guy that De Montfort. Now there is a guy that knew how to read between the lines in the bible.

Not the last book he ever read, just the most important book he ever read.

Also interesting is his motto Totus Tuus - "Totally Yours". This to Mary. How much is left for the Lord after the "total" is given to Mary?

Never fear though Dave is thoroughly trained in reading between the lines in the Bible, Papal Bulls, and, more importantly, the Catechism and he assures us the "Devotion" to Mary will never rise above the current level.

Remember this: "There is no teaching or action of the RCC and/or the Pope which cannot be explained away by SoothingDave utilizing his great gift of Logic, Reasoning, and Revelation."

Strange isn't it that you, nor I, nor anybody on this earth knows exactly how many attended the council yet you know, from a single source that "Originally seventeen of those bishops gathered at the council were unwilling to sign the Creed penned by the Council, ..."?

You know this was the first iteration of the Creed?

You know the first two signatures were of the Pope's Legates?

How do you know these things when no qualified scholar in this world is willing to make the same definitive statement?

One thing you can be certain of; I do not have a high opinion of your scholarship.

Oh, I forgot to congratulate you for choosing an unbiased source "Columbia University" to buttress your claims concerning "minority", "majority", and "seventeen".

Congratulations! I really expected you to choose a Catholic Apolegits source.

Oh Oh! Oh my! Since I found it highly unusual to find such a paucity of sources in agreement with your claims I went back to the Columbia University site. Lo and behold , shock, shock. It was a club within Columbia University. What club you ask? Looky here.

Do you watch boxing?

Bernard Hopkins fought a guy named Eastman last night on HBO and it was a flop, Hopkins beat the guy in 12 rounds on the score cards but Hopkins style is to box and run and pick your opponent apart, the thing is if he would of got in a fight with this guy I believe Eastman would of kicked his ass. But ya can't fight a guy that runs from you.

This was Hopkins 20th title defense, hes 40 years old and can probably fight like this for a long time., hes in top condition but he's always whining that he doesn't get any respect as the best pound for pound fighter, no wonder, he's boring to watch.

I won't waste another 2 hrs watching the guy, I will watch the replay if someone kicks his ass. :)

No. The only sports I watched this weekend was the last 10 laps or so of the Daytoner Fivunnert.

We were supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow today, and ended up with more like 7-8. So my shovel and I spent some quality time together today. ;o)

Do you watch boxing?

Only in the context of a hockey game, and even then it's bare-knuckle fighting.
