~The Dragon Flies' Lair~XVII~
January 9, 2005 | bentfeather and Poets of The Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

The following is a link to an interesting website.

It is graphic intensive but very interesting.

Doors

We open so many doors
along life's traverse
We laugh in sunshine
mope in rains
pull ourselves up
by bootstrap reins
stick out our neck
with rhyming words
and learn that we are not toads

We learn to laugh along the way
after we've done a long dark day
and awoke to see the sun had been
up and shinning when we've not been in
to taking life by lead and strutting around
filling our need of mixing up the rough
and soft of life lifting us aloft...

My larder full, my friends a plenty
a poets loft is never empty
dusty, yes from lack of use
or from stimulating the juice
that keeps us humming to the brim
of words falling on the page to her and him,
in The Sounds Of Silence.

As twilight nears, woos us in
day is done and shadows creep
from corners of the dance hall room
merry mirth, laughing, dancing
in the half shadow of night
with Mercury heels on our feet
we whirl to music in our heads
our songs we sings with out dread
and others in the room need hear
the midnight Ride of PAUL REVERE.

So while little night bugs blink
and glow, time stands still for now
for the dance of words moves like
silk in a gentle breeze and your
face in midnight shadow gives off a glow
satisfaction guaranteed it reflects..
a good night's dance and sweet good night kiss.

Hawk Roosting

I sit in the top of the wood, my eyes closed.
Inaction, no falsifying dream
Between my hooked head and hooked feet:
Or in sleep rehearse perfect kills and eat.

The convenience of the high trees!
The air's buoyancy and the sun's ray
Are of advantage to me;
And the earth's face upward for my inspection.

My feet are locked upon the rough bark.
It took the whole of Creation
To produce my foot, my each feather:
Now I hold Creation in my foot

Or fly up, and revolve it all slowly -
I kill where I please because it is all mine.
There is no sophistry in my body:
My manners are tearing off heads -

The allotment of death.
For the one path of my flight is direct
Through the bones of the living.
No arguments assert my right:

The sun is behind me.
Nothing has changed since I began.
My eye has permitted no change.
I am going to keep things like this.

Ted Hughes

Good morning, Lair! How's everyone's Monday going?

"It Will Not Change"
Sarah Teasdale

It will not change now
After so many years;
Life has not broken it
With parting or tears;
Death will not alter it,
It will live on
In all my songs for you
When I am gone.

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible.
Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it
lavishly, like a millionaire intent on going broke.

A BUTTERFLY WITH WINGS AS PINK AS ROSES WENT FLOATING BY UPON A BREEZE SO DELIGHTED JUST TO DREAM ALONG IN THE SUN.

I thank you for this wonderful interlude! You have allured me into your fantasy. I see things and the inquisitive part of me asks `Why?` and You dream things and say `Why not?` Life is so much fun!

Pink winged butterflies

Children laughing waves splashing

Music to my ears

I am learning to be a good listener. My ears will never get me into trouble! ;-)

I awoke early this morning and had some time to read. I have a very old book given to me by a dear friend. It is 138 years old to be exact.

Titled;

"Wild Flowers Birds and Insects Of The Months" By H. G. Adams

I was reading about butterflies and discovered a few poems. I`d like to share two of them.

`Twas the Creator
He sought in every volume open to him,
From the small leaf that hides an insect`s web,
From which ere long a colony shall issue,
With limbs and wings as perfect as the eagle`s,
To the stupendous ocean, that gives birth
And nourishment to the everlasting millions
Of creatures, great and small, beyond the power
Of man to comprehend how they exist.`

~ The Pelican Island

The next one is Wordsworths`s lines to -

A ROBIN PURSUING A BUTTERFLY

`Can this be the bird to a man so good,
That, after their bewildering,
Did cover with leaves the little children
So painfully in the wood?

`What ailed thee, Robin, that thou could`st pursue
A beautiful creature
That is gentle by nature?
Beneath a summer sky
From flower to flower let him fly;
`Tis all that he wishes to do.

`The cheerer of our indoor sadness,
He is the friend of our summer gladness;
What hinders, then, that ye should be
Playmates in the sunny weather,
And fly about in the air together?
His beautiful wings in crimson are drest-
A crimson as bright as thine own-
If thou would`st be happy in thy nest,
O pious bird! whom man loves best,
Love him, or leave him alone!`

This book holds many treasures.

I have a few more writings of Butterflies, I have loved them my whole life. Some are author unknown, but so lovely not to be shared.

A CHILD IS LIKE A BUTTERFLY

A child is like a butterfly in the wind,
Some can fly higher than others,
But each one flies the best it can.
Why compare one against the other?
Each one is different.
Each one is special.
Each one is beautiful.

"Butterfly, reveal my Inner Beauty,
Guide me in the transformation of my soul.
With my new Wings, I rise above the clouds."

It is Eternity now,
I am in the midst of it,
It is about me in the sunshine; I am in it,
As the butterfly in the light-laden air.
Nothing has to come; it is now,
Now is eternity; now is immortal life.

~ The Story of My Heart (1883)
Richard Jefferies

"What is a Butterfly?
At best
He`s but a catapillar
Dressed."

~ Benjamin Franklin

>><<>><<

The children opened the Elder Brother`s bag and out of it flew the first butterflies. Their wings were bright as sunlight and held all of the colors of the flowers and the leaves, the cornmeal, the pollen and the green pine needles. They were red and gold and black and yellow, blue and green and white. They looked like flowers dancing in the wind. They flew about the heads of the children
and the children laughed. As those first butterflies flew, they sang and the children `listened.`

(Keepers of the Animals: Caduto & Buchar)

Taken from a Papillion Prayer
~ unknown ~

" A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam.
And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world. But then it flies on again, and though we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it."

Butterflies are a symbol of life, and freedom ~

Bentfeather;

All kids are gifted; some just open their packages earlier than others.

Everybody`s gotta sing, sometime!

I`m scared of Hawks!

but `I still want to be a bird` :)
