My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

A Winter Bluejay

Crisply the bright snow whispered,
Crunching beneath our feet;
Behind us as we walked along the parkway,
Our shadows danced,
Fantastic shapes in vivid blue.
Across the lake the skaters
Flew to and fro,
With sharp turns weaving
A frail invisible net.
In ecstacy the earth
Drank the silver sunlight;
In ecstacy the skaters
Drank the wine of speed;
In ecstacy we laughed
Drinking the wine of love.
Had not the music of our joy
Sounded its highest note?
But no,
For suddenly, with lifted eyes you said,
"Oh look!"
There, on the black bough of a snow flecked maple,
Fearless and gay as our love,
A bluejay cocked his crest!
Oh who can tell the range of joy
Or set the bounds of beauty?

Thank You, Star for this lovely piece. Roger Miller remains one of the funniest men of song.

Nice pome today!
I have no birds feeding anymore
the shrubs cut down, the squirrels have won
the black capped chicka dee has removed
his lovely chirp from me
The is is price I have paid for
new lattice on the porch was laid
a new roof and gutter work, too,
was the price paid, the reason for no blue parade.

A Tribute to a Butterfly

Madam Butterfly is free
to fly and see all there is to see
while thee well, velvet one
turn thy face to the sun
to feel the soft of moonlight's grace
remembering those who walk in place
someday will have their wings to fly
with many songs to sing and rhyme.
These are the days of counting down
a life well spent... while earth bound
whose soul doth sing a lovely sound
sparkling starlight all around
fare thee well, flight is straight
right up to heaven's golden gate.

In the Valleys
In the valleys of the past.
In the fading of the years,
by the falling of the tears,
in the sunshine of a life,
to the dark and dreary strife,
from a tall and lofty place,
I look upon your face.
From the blowing of the wind,
to the scorching, searing sun,
I look upon your face,
see the agony of pain,
hear the mournful wail,
of a haunted forlorn soul.
Was the screeching of the wheels
tearing at my heels,
a talisman?

In this place of raging winds
of tossing waters left to spin
a loosing game do we win
when sweeping angels call us in.

Song of the Pancake Man

I'm the pancake man,
And I do, when I can,
Eat pancakes by the score;
I bake them brown,
And swallow them down,
And loudly call for more.
I'll lay my stakes
That a million cakes
I can eat between two naps;
Then call for more,
A million and four,
Or a million and five, perhaps.
It makes me fat,
And more than that,
I'm jolly through and through;
I've been known to laugh
For a year and a half,___
Or why not call it two
Oh, I long for a cake
As big as they make,___
Say, fifty townships wide;
I would handle it quite
At a single bite
And stow it away inside.
