~The Dragon Flies' Lair~XVII~
January 9, 2005 | bentfeather and Poets of The Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

ALL.....wisdom is not always obtained with age. IN.....society is contained the conformists who suffers from a fear of being an outcast. UNDERSTANDING.....is not always empathy.

Dark Sea Raging

The waves crash upon the black rocks,
spewing their spume high into the air.
Spray cascades like chill despair,
across the shattered stone blocks.

Wind and waves carve the stones,
etching their story with patience.
Elements equally subtle and arrogance,
story tellers writing on earths bones.

The wind howls in primal rage,
angry at itself, frustration builds to a storm.
Nature vents her anger in all her forms,
and mere mortals hide at this stage.

The sea is a heaving mass whipped by the storm,
spray tears off the crests in horizontal rain.
I swear I can hear Nature’s soul deep pain,
as her moods shift and then transform.

The coast is battered in the onslaught,
changing right before my eyes.
Each moment lives and then moves on to die,
the elements battle as Nature’s dreadnaught.

Dark sea rages and vents the energy within,
unleashing the power to change a world.
Each wave a hammer swiftly hurled,
upon the anvil of the waiting shore again.

I love the storm, for it matches the one within,
both seeking to overcome the ennui around us.
Seeking that point of equality, balance amid fuss,
where a moment of peace might begin.

High Country Dawn

Blue edges the crystal clear sky,
teases the tops of distant mountains,
just as the brilliant gold fire of dawn,
waits to dress the peaks with coming day.

I wait to see dawn upon the peaks so softly lay,
and hear the first bird songs well up like a fountain,
as I stand here entranced until the moment is gone,
the price for my joy an early awakening is all I pay.

Rain Wrath

Running, as hard as you can,
breath whistling in and out.
Each a pain that seems to shout,
as fear tears at you as terror spans.

Rain falls in constant sheets,
turning earth into flowing mud.
Covering all in sweeping flood,
taking lives on once friendly streets.

Landscapes shift into a brown sea,
complete with tides and churning debris.
A mud tsunami taking those who run to flee,
changing lives from what might be.

Earth shifting with sudden speed,
making man aware of his mortality.
Frightening brush with fatality,
as man learns to fear Fate’s sudden deed.

Traveling through the Dark

Traveling through the dark I found a deer
dead on the edge of the Wilson River road.
It is usually best to roll them into the canyon:
that road is narrow; to swerve might make more dead.

By glow of the tail-light I stumbled back of the car
and stood by the heap, a doe, a recent killing;
she had stiffened already, almost cold.
I dragged her off; she was large in the belly.

My fingers touching her side brought me the reason--
her side was warm; her fawn lay there waiting,
alive, still, never to be born.
Beside that mountain road I hesitated.

The car aimed ahead its lowered parking lights;
under the hood purred the steady engine.
I stood in the glare of the warm exhaust turning red;
around our group I could hear the wilderness listen.

I thought hard for us all--my only swerving--,
then pushed her over the edge into the river.

Morning Sam!

Whoa very graphic poem. Happens all to often around here- the deer population is huge.

Good tunes today, thanks much.

Glad you are home-it's a beast on the East Coast.

Hi Dave!

Good to hear from you. I guess we are in the cold belt. LOL

It's afternoon here now and there has not been a warm up. I am running the furnace hotter than I usually do, there is a North wind blowing, can't keep this old manse warm on that end. There are people upstairs who complain about cold. Oh well, it's warm on the ground floor it should be warmer upstairs.

Hope to have some poetry from you soon.

Take care.
