The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah, but I don't like that one as well as Raising Arizona. I really like the music, though.

Fargo is one of the best movies ever made, IMO.

"Prowler needs a jump."

"You ok Marge?"
"I just think I'm gonna barf."
"Well, that passed. Now I'm hungry again."

"Not sure I agree with ya a hunnerd percent on your police work there, Lou."

"Aww, geez!"

"So guess that would be your partner there in the wood chipper?"

Dangit, I was gonna use the woodchipper line next.

"Well, the little guy was kinda funny lookin'."
"Can you be more specific?"
"I couldn't really say. He wasn't circumcised."
"Was he funny lookin' apart from that?"

Another great movie is Waking Ned Devine. If you haven't seen it, you should.

I play the concert and Irish flutes, a variety of pennywhistles, and the native american flute. How long did you play the sax and oboe for? The oboe is a wonderful instrument.

Waking Ned Devine, or Catch me if you Can? I'm not sure who's in Waking Ned Devine, but Catch me if you Can has Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Christopher Walken. Walken is one of my favorite actors.

I'm going to have to see some of these movies - the dialog I'm hearing here is great.

I love that movie! The music kinda reminded me of home and the characters reminded me of my dad's side of the family. They are from the mountains in Virginia, real hillbillies!

I have the sound track for OBW art thou. It's awesome. My husband really likes these movies and I enjoy watching them with him but I'm more into action and sci-fi. I love twilight zone and AH, old star treks and happy ending animal movies:') For some reason though I don't care for Matrix and (ducking snowballs from the hobbits) lord of the ring movies.

A couple of pictures of the view outside today. All the horses you see standing out in this mess have a choice of being inside instead. They can come and go, free choice.

This is a picture I took of some wild horses last week.

Wow. I thought I was looking at a black and white at first glance. Beautiful. Do they just go out or are they staying outside?

How many stalls do you have in your barn?

Hair, consider a snowball thrown your way :)

They tend to go inside when the wind is blowing and sometimes during the rain. They don't seem to mind the snow very much.

Cindy, the barn has five 12X12 stalls, a 12X12 tack/feed room and a center alleyway 12X36. Then in the back, there are two loafing sheds, each one is 10X24. They are divided into two 10X12 each. In the front, there is a 12x20 shelter that is divided into two 12X10 shelters.

That sounds really laid out. I don't think I want my tack and feed room combined though. We get huge rats at the stable barn. I don't want my tack in an area that's going to attract vermin. I also want the tack room viewing my sick room/nursery:')

ack! *shudder* The worst we get is mice in the grain bins. And huge freakin' spiders. Spiders. Big ones, small ones, hairy ones it doesn't matter.
