Top 10 Best Westerns of All Time:
1. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - Sergio Leone's quintessential Western epic made Clint Eastwood the torchbearer in the genre and cemented Lee Van Cleef as one of the greatest movie villains of all time.
2. Shane - The archetypal Western plotline of the stranger who befriends a family and saves them from evil set the tone for all that swam in its wake, including The Unforgiven, the most blatant (and best) Shane knockoff.
3. High Noon - A case study in movie making, High Noon is among the first films to take place in real time.
4. The Wild Bunch - Sam Peckinpah's ultra-violent epic still packs quite a punch.
5. High Plains Drifter - The most badass revenge flick ever made. Clint's The Man With No Name could kick Dirty Harry's ass.
6. The Unforgiven - There would be no Unforgiven without Shane.
7. Outlaw Josey Wales - Practically a remake of High Plains Drifter but with more backstory, sub-plots and fully developed characters. You can still feel the sting of that darned whip!
8. Treasure of the Sierra Madre - A later-era Western to be sure, but a terrific character study in greed and trust, and a fine example of why we are still talking about Bogart to this day. The man oozes star power.
9. A Fistful of Dollars - The beginning of Sergio and Clint's Dollars series, this is the best of the bunch.
10. Once Upon a Time in the West - Henry Fonda and Charles Bronson lead this all-star cast. Never in cinematic history has a harmonica been the source of so much tension.
Do ya'll agree or disagree?

I've always had an attraction to Jean Arthur.
By the same token, "The Angel and the Badman", wasn't a great flick, but Gail Russell sure was pretty.
I guess because I am Indian: Little Big Man and Dances with Wolves but also love Red River with John Wayne and Jeramiah Johnson with Rober Redford.
Unforgiven, I'm a big Gene Hackman fan and this one Tombstone
"I'm your huckleberry".
Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliott, and the brother from Weird Science, I forget his name at the moment.
Heh....you gotta be kiddin'. The ultimate "Rat Pack" western filmgasm. Check it out some time for a laugh. It even had a cameo by the Three Stooges. Charles Bronsen, Victor Buono and Ursula Andress were in it. Throw in Anita Ekberg for more eye candy and it was actually a fun flick.
You beat me to it!
The Magnificent Seven!!!
:o)
Although you call them no-names, Red Sun starred Charles Bronson and Toshiro Mfune (spelling?). We all know Bronson, but Mfune was probably the most famous Japanese actor of the twentieth century. I believe he starred in lots of Korosawa's greatest movies.
Number 1, by far...
I've never stayed at a Best Western, so how can I know which one's best?
Oops....sorry 'bout that. Thought you were referring to another post of mine.
Though, like in NY, you're surrounded by liberals.
If you are surrounded by liberals you are in a hellhole...whether you know it or not.
Although I am a Clint fan, the list is Clint heavy. I would add "The Magnificant Seven."
What's a Four Feather and Gunga Din? I know the Rat Pack, is Sammy, Dean, Frank and some other guys.
I hated "Shane" and the hopelessly wimpy townsfolk that cowered outside again and again and let Shane do their fighting for them.
I kept yelling for him to ride out of town and keep going! What the heck was in it for Shane?

The Good, the bad, and the Ugly
You've got to ask
yourself one question:
"Do I Feel Lucky ??"
Well do you, punk ?!
I've never been impressed with Best Westerns, am more of a Holiday Inn Express kind of guy...
My favorite is True Grit.
And I like a more violent one, I think it is called The Wild Bunch.
