That is a beautiful sight. My girlfriend here has an orange tree (inside) and she recently told me to take an orange and plant the seeds. So I just planted one of the seeds TODAY!! I kept the other one just in case this one doesn't grow. I'm sure it will tho. My house is full of humongos plants. I have a Hibiscus tree that is so big I actually had to cut it back some because the ceiling fan was hitting it. Our ceilings in that area are about 12 to 15 feet high. I usually scalp it every winter but it has about 30 blooms on it and a bunch more buds. I refuse to cut off the buds.

Hi CG - I haven't seen you for ages. I wanted to tell you that my cat Daisy, the one that had those patches of fur pulled out and she was making herself bleed etc. Well the Vet told me he "thought" it was probably self-induced trauma from stress. That made sense as she is a very very timid cat. She only comes to me and even I can't make quick movements around her. He prescribed prednisone and bandaged her paws. Well forget the bandages. She got those off every time. Anyway, the bleeding patches healed up and she stopped scratching. Fur all grew back and I thought everything was okay. All of a sudden she started wheezing, really bad too. So back to the vet we go. She has Asthma. Back on Prednisone. I finished the dosage he prescribed and weaned her down to half a tab for a few days and then off. It wasn't more than 4 or 5 days and she had an asthma attack that was so bad I thought I might lose her. Back to the vet!! This time he gave her a Prednisone injection and a high dose and then I filled a Rx for home. I have followed the instructions but I have to play with the dosages to see what will keep this from erupting again. So far, the best I can do is 7.5 mg every second day. I tried cutting the dosage to 5 mg every second day and it wasn't enough. So that's where we are. With all the cats I have had and all the thousands of cats I worked with in the SPCA, she is the first one I have seen develop Asthma. Have you ever had one?

"New Orleans had about a 1/2" of snow it was their first white Christmas ever."

I understand that it was the same in Houston.

"This is a tragedy of biblical proportions!!"

It certainly is. That kind of devastation is just incomprehensible!

Peach, I don't recall in all my 59 years ever hearing of an earthquake hitting 9.0. My husband said there was one in Alaska in 1965 but I don't remember hearing about it. I was in Nursing school then and probably too busy studying and on time off, well we would be drinking LOL. Thank God I grew up!

"You'd probably be superior to 90% of those actually running."

That wouldn't take much.

Canadian Outrage: I don't remember a 9.0 either and hope to never experience one! We didn't have 24/7 news in the 60's may be one reason I don't remember. And LOL about growing up :-)

My father was born on Dec. 29th also Westy. But he passed away at the ripe old age of 83. He just died in his sleep with his hands folded together over this chest. Peaceful as could be. I had driven him home (to the nursing home) the night before and he was just fine. That phone call at 6am was really a surprise!! I miss my Dad. He was a great father and so much fun. In fact, he was so much fun, I used to take him on dates with me many years ago. All the guys certainly liked him. The life of the party!! He never seemed out of place. What a different day we live in now.

"My youngest grandson Joey has to have EVERYTHING Sponge Bob!!"

The Sponge Bob thing completely escapes me. I suffered through 2 straight hours of Sponge Bob and all I got out of it was annoyed. I put it on about the same intellectual level as Smurfs. Not sure what it says when Dawn and Tyler both were completely absorbed in the Sponge Bob game for the Game Boy. Fortunately, Tyler DOES have other interests.

From another thread:

How to "Cat-Proof" Your Christmas Tree

Buy a cardboard box big enough to hold the tree. Paint it red and yellow. Paste pictures of cats playing with toys on the box. Write phrases on the box like: "Giant very expensive cat toy." "Your cat will love it!" "No cat can resist!" "Hours and hours of fun!" "Only $99,999,999.99!"

Bring the tree home inside the box, and round up your cats. Say, "look what mommy got you! A giant, really really expensive cat toy! You will go nuts! I can't wait to see you play with this!"

Force the cats to watch you put up the tree and decorate it. If they drift off towards the cardboard box, bring them back to the tree and point at it while saying things like "you had better play with this thing, I spent a month's salary on it."

When the tree is decorated, wave some branches in their face and shout, "come on and play! Looky here, the branches move, see? You're supposed to swat at the branches and have lots and lots of fun! Hey, come back here! You come back here right now and play with this tree. See how much fun it is? HEY. I'M TALKING TO YOU. Get out of that box right now, mister. The box is not a toy. This is the toy."

If you do this with enough sincerity, your cats will avoid the tree like it was a foaming mad Rottweiler.

Of course, you'll be stuck with a giant ugly cardboard box in your living room all through the holidays, but it can always double as a buffet table.
