I just got screwed by Dell trying to buy one of their laptops. It seems they are out of Pentium M chips and won't tell their customers, so my wifes Christmas present is doomed.
I am now looking at maybe a 17" wide Apple laptop for the wife. If it can run windows applications, even remotely well, I might just buy one.
This is a Christmas present, so I am REALLY short on time here, and this is a great place to ask. There is also an Apple store near my house. Buying over the Internet from Dell is unreliable. If it isn't in my grubby paws, I dont believe it will actually show. Dell Hell.
Any thought or suggestions? Thank you. Shell appreciate it.
Thanks. It seems for the limited word processing, web surfing, and wireless connectivity she enjoys now, the Mac would do just fine. It is only a few web downloaded games that she even runs anything else under Windows.
If you want to post to FR,at least learn the rules here...before doing so! If you refuse to abide by the rules, just smash your computer.
If you buy Office 2004 for MAC, you'll get Entourage, which is in my HO, much better than outlook. A bit of a learning curve, but the cut-paste-n-store features are outstanding.
I swore up and down, that I was never going MAC, until my boss bought an extra powerbook, and palmed it off on me for a weekend. I haven't looked back. Gave up my XP and 2000 workstations, and I keep an old win98 machine around for those 1 in 100 times that I need a windows application that I can't find an alternative for on the mac.
The only thing, I still have not found an equivalent program to freecell for the MAC, that I like the looks and feel of. ie... that's mostly what the win98 computer get used for.
I'm on my third Mac (A 17" iMac G4). I'm very tempted by the G5...But really love the design and speakers on the G4. Have a PC at work and just barely tolerate it.
Got some free time, eh?
"try shopping a bit earlier next time, pal."
No need to. See, when someone says they can deliver I kinda expect they can. Besides, I can always buy somewhere and something else.
But, I see you sell used cars and are used to lies, bud.
I posted this under vanity, not news.
No,you did not...you only think you did. Look at the top/bottom of the thread for conformation of my statement.

Macs come with Outlook Express, and you can get the full version for them, but trust me when I tell you Outlook is probably one of the loneliest programs for Macintosh.
It really depends on what she will be using it for.
You will get fanatics from both camps for various reasons.
I know for my business there are no Mac written programs. If I used Mac I would have to do some work around emulators. I would not do that because I would never be able to give 100% trust for upgrades and/or downward compatability.
There is also the cost of parts in general. (drives etc)
Can you back order the chip you want? It may bad to have a wrapped present with card inside saying her computer will be late BUT it is better to have what you want rather than what you don't want.
What are the other computers she uses, in the office, home or around her. If they are all windows based then she should use the same to ensure compatability.
Don't make an emotional choice. Make a rational choice.
Just my $0.02.
Did you remind the teacher to give homework right before the bell rang?
ShellShocked - you can get a wonderful Apple iBook for about $1K - you won't regret it. No viruses, reliable OS, OK speed, plenty of software. I use Windows at work but spend my my own money on Macs.
Not ever...LOL
Hell, *I* can make you sterile.
But you have to bring your own anesthetic. And fifty bucks.
And his wife might turn gay. I don't know if the Macmoonie Effect does it for women, but there sure are a lot of wimpy-looking "men" with Macs.
Maybe Macs just turn everything effeminate, so for his wife it wouldn't be much of a risk.
Yes, yes, yes! My father and I have bought nothing but Dell Outlet systems for about 5 years - it's the way to go. And my Dad buys a new state-of-the-art Dell every time his current machine gets dusty, so he's got lots of experience.
