Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Though we pass them by today...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Normally we don't go straight to the goat sacrifice, but this was a special case. Lost two of seven spindles in a raid 5 array. Rose would know what that means... and its very bad. You can lose one disk in a raid, but not two. Lose two and the whole volume is pretty much toast.
But the nice gentleman at Dell Powervault support and I talked about it, and decided... what the heck... lets force 'em back online and spin 'em up. It can't really get any worse.
Lo and behold... they spun up... the volume reappearred, and apparently without corrupting any data. Running an all-night consistency check on the data tonight.

I'm sure that would be fascinating if you could translate it into English.
However, I am glad that it worked out. ;-)

I don't know if there *is* an english version of that.
It's sort like firing a shotgun at a chandelier, and luckily having all the pellets fly through without hitting anyting. It's not the sort of thing you want to count on working every time. :-)

Well, I'm from Appalachia. The goat sacrifice makes more sense to me.

is the thread dead? or has everyone gone to sleep???I'm still up, for a few more minutes! We had a double feature tonight, I Robot , which I enjoyed for it's sparkling repartee between Will Smith and 'Sunny', then Man on Fire, a truly violent movie about the bodyguard of a little girl who goes on a revenge rampage after she's kidnapped, to get the ones who killed her. It was extremely violent, but very satisfying, and even involves some redemption in the end.
The wind is HOWLING outside, and it looks like we've had about 8" of snow so far, but it's hard to tell because of the drifting because of the wind. SSQ said he'd heard they were going to be having hurricane force winds out on the Cape. A true Nor'easter. Gonna check weather.com one more time and hit the hay.
Night all!

Just got this info off weather.com:
JUST BEFORE 11 PM... WINDS GUSTED TO 57 MPH AT THE BLUE HILL OBSERVATORY AND THE ELEVATED PLATFORM OF THE BUZZARDS BAY CMAN STATION HAS REPORTED A WIND GUST TO 77 MPH..
Yep, them's hurricane strength winds. There's a blizzard warning in effect until 6pm Sunday night, and they're telling folks to NOT go outside because of the winds and drifting snow because of the possibility of losing your bearings and getting lost in the snow. That would be VEY bad.
Northwest RI is supposed to get almost 3' of snow. YOWSERS! We're only about 30 miles north of that!

Looks like we didn't get much if any snow on top of the ice from yesterday afternoon. Sun's out, but it's cold. Doubt we'll see much melting.
