The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Welcome, you are.

...must...not...look...at...newer...cars...

Especially 4-stompers...

My indulgent buy of the day: a second-hand store had the original (pre-1997) Star Wars Trilogy on VHS. $3.99 per tape. First VHS I've bought since 1999...

Official ShootMoot Bulletin

The official dates for ShootMoot are 3 – 5 June 2005 on Dogwood Ridge in the Missouri Ozarks

Rules and Regulations:

1. While we are willing and cordial hosts, we are careful about who we invite to our homestead. That said, only those that have attended previous Moots that have taken place across the U.S. and have met other Hobbit Hole Dwellers (HHers) face-to-face, will be allowed inside the perimeter alive… Those of you that have received this invitation and have not had the opportunity to attend a Moot, still have time to arrange a meeting with other HHers prior to ShootMoot. I will have the final say, and reserve the right to approve or disapprove the attendance/survival of all perspective attendees…

2. While alcohol is not discouraged, being sloppy, commode hugging drunk is… there will be children present, and we want to be a good influence.

3. Firearms are encouraged, but strict range safety rules will be enforced… a range safety class will be given prior to any rounds going down range… exceptin’ those that I expend on interlopers… Anyone handling firearms in an unsafe manner will be immediately beaten and deposited outside the gate…

4. The privacy of all atendees will be guarded with the utmost care. No real names, addresses or phone numbers will be posted in an open Forum.

5. Shoes are not allowed inside our home.

6. Pets are allowed, but will be held accountable for molesting any livestock…

More Regs as I think em up…

Accomodations:

We have a 3500 sq ft home. At least 2 bedrooms will be available, and will be reserved for families or those who need them due to age or infirmity. There are three couches available, carpeted floors downstairs… We have plenty of space for tentage, trailers, or RVs.

We have 2 ½ baths, so showers will be at a premium.

There are many campgrounds, motels, and RV parks within 10 minutes of the Ridge. I will compile a list if required…

Area Attractions:

Bennett Spring State Park and Trout Hatchery are 20 minutes away.
Branson and Silver Dollar City are about an 1:45 away.
Six Flags is two hours away.
Fantastic Caverns and Merrimac Caverns are about 1:30 away.
Historic Route 66 runs thru the city of Lebanon, 15 miles away.
Lake of the Ozarks is about an hour from here.
The Missouri Wine Country is an 1:15 minutes from here.

We need someone who is driving to bring an extra coffee maker, any inflatable beds that are required.

Volunteers to prepare meals and menus/snacks/refreshment requests are required. Hair, I delegate you to coordinate this. We will then have all the foodstuffs/beverages purchased prior to everyone’s arrival.

We would like a firm headcount and menu by 1 May if possible, but we are flexible.

All musicians are encouraged to bring instruments… we have an acoustic guitar, fiddle, keyboard, flute, and harmonica here.

We look forward to this Moot as a joyous time of fellowship and celebration. We have much to be thankful for. See you in June!

Sounds like a great list of rules and regs... I come from good upbringin' and trust it will not be me who will end up beaten and left at the gate.

Additional info:

For those who are flying in, St louis is the best major airport with the easiest and fastest drive.

If you choose to fly into Kansas City, you might want to contact Overtaxed and Osagebowman to coordinate.

Springfield, MO has an airport, and is only an hour away, but it will likely cost you more to fly in there.

Well said!

Don't know if I can make it. Can't think that far ahead.

Am just back from the othermall. Mall-crawling two weekends in a row is almost more than I can bear. *but* I got the perfect shoes to go with thedress. I'm practicing walking in them now so that I don't fall on my face Thurs.

Been perusing the theads about the FBI being concerned about 'suspicious activity.' All I can say is that terrorist and their derivatives (the American liberal) better not ruin the party after all I went through to get these shoes! I might come unhinged and embed a spikey heel in their skull.

We are seriously considering driving out. Would make it a fun trip, easier to bring guns (perhaps) and we are planning a side trip to Oklahoma to visit and trail ride with Becky.

My daddy did teach me good gun manners at least. Were there other rules I am at risk of breaking? Oh yeah - the toilet huggin'. I doubt I am at risk of that. Not since college.

Great info! Have not yet decided whether to fly or drive out. If Rosie's with me by then, I bet we'll drive - it'll be cheaper than two tickets. You're about 14 hours away but really once you factor in airport time and getting out to you it's not that much longer to drive. Specially if I disobey posted signs.

I'm pretty sure I can rent camping equipment pretty cheaply through school, so if some of the gals want to rough it, I can get a tent and they can just bring sleeping bags. I'll leave the couches for the old folks ;-p

But I'm happy because the water-weight pounds are starting to come off, so apparently the diet is working.

I'm writing a new diet book.

It's the "After Holiday Waste Those Pounds Away Bronchitis Diet"

Think it'll sell?

Thanks fer the info. We're figurin' out what to do. I can't fly all four of us, so we'll have to debate about letting Jr. miss that much school towards the end of the year. Missus and Luke will already be out for the summer.

It's a 16 hour drive for us. You'll either get all of us driving, or just me flying. We'll let you know asap.

I regret that, as I would be in violation of the face-to-face clause of rule 1, I will therefore withdraw gracefully from attendance at ShootMoot. I hope that all who can attend will enjoy themselves thoroughly, and that future opportunities for joining your gatherings will arise.
