The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

picked up The Well-Trained Mind at the libbery...

Good book! I think y'all will like the concept. Uses REAL info, not just textbooks for study, and you can choose the books used by your kids to do their research.

Swarovskis,

I didn't know there was a bino made by a company called Swarovski. I've only ever heard the name in the context of faceted, pricey glass beads. Makes sense, if they're cutting the glass for the lens.

Oh, is this the one you had mentioned before the holidays?

Yeah, but he seems ok. No Mad Mo the Suicide Bomber air. And we won't be working that closely together, I'm Windows and he's Unix. Not as big a problem I think, as I was worried about.

Burris makes some vey nice optics for the money. And you just can't beat Leupold for scopes. Well, you can, but you have to spend an extra $1-$2K to do it.

Minox (the spy camera people) have branched out into binoculars and spotting scopes. Their new line of binoculars are said to eat the lunch of Leitz, Swarovski, etc., for half the price. "Half the price" is still pretty pricey, but they seem to be doing well for the new kid on the block.

I think the sedan is the color you are thinking of...it's called "pampas yellow" and it do look like colostrum poo!

Mine is the color of the convertible...Yukon Yellow. Brighter but still subdued enough to suit Steve.

If it were up to me, I'd probably paint daisies on it like the chicken coop. But although Steve was very indulgent when it came to the coop, I don't think daisies on the car will fly.
