ABC13 Eyewitness News (12/15/04 - HOUSTON) — A Richmond couple is upset at a Sugar Land pet store they say gave away their beloved Pomeranian to a stranger.

Jana Brown says she dropped off her purebred Pomeranian named Mercedes to a Sugar Land Petco to get groomed more than a week ago, just as she has done dozens of times before. But ...

Pets are children to single girls. My mom thinks I'm bananas when I leave the radio on for Sophie.

Yeah, I know a few single girls. It's called maternal transference. Go to town, leave the radio on, have birthday parties for your pets, have fun with it, it's a free country. They're still animals, however fond we might be of them.

Ya think Freepers really are dog people?

Nah, can't be! /sarcasm>

"Even the folks at the Humane Society shelter where I got my Lab (rescued) can take a good ribbing about the animals there"

Absolutely! I used to volunteer at the SPCA and everyone rolled with the jokes about some of the animals.

Must also point out that in 5 years of volunteering there, even with taking in pits, the only "biters" were consistently the little "dogs". We always had to have warnings over the cages because some of them would come running across the cage, just to take a snap at you (and most small children). I was always amazed that people actually adopted them (and they were, fairly quickly)

"They are even better after they are dead, that's when ya eat 'em! Ummmmm
"

No, thanks. I've never eaten dog, although I've had it offered to me. I don't enjoy the meat of carnivores very much. Not many folks do.

Here in the USA, we don't really raise dogs for meat. Some countries, like Korea, do.

I've eaten guinea pig, bunny, and even a water rat. No dogs, though.

But, to each his own, I guess. I'd advise against going after any of the dogs mentioned on this thread, though.

Would you hate me if I told you I guffawed at that comment?
Would I care? :)

I leave the radio on low for Salty and the felines; they're a touch less rambunctious when I get home if they've had it on during the day.

No kiding, I looked at this a few minutes ago and after seeing over 100 posts I came back to see what all the fuss was about.

I had thought to dis- people who are too incompetent, wussy or spoiled to give their own little dog a bath but that will probably be a bad idea at this point. ;~D

I do hope through this publicity, they find the dog. And learn how to bathe it.

I sure have, and I can empathize, but I'll bet even on your boys' worst days you wouldn't trade them for a dog.

On the other hand, a nice power tool...

You must be bored since your third parties continued their downward spiral in 2004.

Which ones were those?

In 2008, they'll drop into total oblivion.

Which ones?

I'm still waiting for a good one to appear. Now that the Democrats are moving to the right of the Republicans, it could happen some day. Probably not soon enough though, that's why I am having some fun now, before the war starts. We might all really be eating dogs at that time, then the joke will be over.

I dunno, all my experiences have been with vets or shops small enough where we knew the personnel and so this couldn't happen. That's not to blame the owner for leaving her pet with a large shop, but after this story I would certainly be leery of such without a claim check system. You do raise valid points.

You mean "big" dog people. Maybe I should reconsider getting a Cairn to replace my beloved 15.5 yr old Siberian Husky

Yes, they are great alarm dogs. I've often relied on them to let me know when someone is out behind our houses. The only problem is that they often don't know when to turn it off. Marti is 65 and she can't hear them sometimes when they really get going. It isn't nearly as bad when Sandy, her daughter, is at home. And I've learned to tune a lot of it out, so it really doesn't bother me anymore.

I can't tell ya. They still like me over there. That group of dog lovers still has a sense of humor.

You better watch your back, that Amazon lady is one tough cookie! LOL
