I hate it when anyone is murdered. I can't understand all this adulation for someone I never knew existed before a few days ago.

John Cage actually recorded silence

on a really small MP3 file.

I would never consider marrying your daughter to end up with you as my inlaw.

She probably won't run into you at Harvard Medical School.

She could be heir to a fortune too, still wouldn't be worth it.

Very true, and it's real easy to assume that he died as a result of a drug deal gone bad (being shot, his nickname). There's no proof of any of that and we may never know what the killer's reasoning is, if he had any. It's a terrible situation and I should not have been making fun of it.

How many of us who are really into music (though, admittedly not this dreck portrayed as music) had never even heard of this guy? Mine is the first hand up.
I'm a classically trained pianist. I'm "into music" as well, listing to everything from Scarlatti, Handle & Mozart to Glen Miller, The Ohio Players, Stevie Ray Vaughn (& Double Trouble) to Cake.

Pantera kicked ass. What I didn't know is that he was a pretty straight-up guy who got along with his elderly neighbors, respected their rights by not disturbing them with his music, was a big supporter of W & was admired in his home town.

If you don't know about music, then it would behoove you to not knock them. Stating that you haven't heard of them only tells us about your (lack) of knowledge of music.

Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm.

There ya go.

>> If you don't know about music<<

Yeah, that's it. I don't know about music. I was only all state band in high school; I play 6 instruments, including piano, with varying degrees of quality. I started composing music at about 7 or 8, composing half-way decent sounding music at about 14. And I'm working on a masters degree in music. My iPod is loaded with everything from classical to (some) light rap (much of which I don't consider music either). I respect your opinion, but I stand by my statement: metal isn't music. Its the equivilent of banging on the piano. When you take a metal "song" and play it on something other than heavy guitar, it ceases to become metal. When a marching band plays a rock tune, its still rock music. The original may have SOUNDED better, but it is still rock. They don't have to rewrite it as much as they have to rearrange it, and rockers would appreciate it if it was good quality. If the same band tried to play a metal peice, they would either have to bring out several guitars, or they'd have to rewrite it extensively. Metal fans likely wouldn't like the rendition. Musicians such as yourself might appreciate it, as you like metal sounds and like it being turned into music, but the typical heavy metal fan likes metal because of the noise and rythem of the drums and bass, not because of what some musicians have done with parts of metal peices on other instruments.

I'm not going to prove anything to people who like heavy metal and want to call it music. The only reason you responded to me was that I touched a nerve. If I was all wet, you'd have ignored me. There's no need to get defensive; if you like this stuff, fine. Buy the CDs, listen to it, etc.

My ignorance of Pantera says nothing of my lack of knowledge of music, sorry to say. I don't consider metal music, and even if I did, I doubt I would consider any of it any good. I am open to reconsideration of that last point, however.

I believe the W is actually the logo for his guitar manufacturer.

All state band? Wow. [Cough.]

Spout off about this when you've gigged, mmmmm 'k?

Oh, bullshit. Honestly. I am calling bullshit on you, right here and right now. Nothing could be further from the truth, and (giving you the benefit of the doubt) a reasonable person can only conclude at this point that Pantera was simply over your head.

P.S. I'll bet you can't play your way out of a wet paper bag.

" I'm working on a masters degree in music."

That confirms it. I couldn't pin his/her posts down, but with that statement I'm convinced he/she is going to be a music teacher.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach..............

>>I'm convinced he/she is going to be a music teacher<<

You need to get another crystal ball. I'm an attorney and have no interest in changing professions. Music is and always will be an avocation, if that. And I'm in the VERY early stages; it probably wasn't even worth mentioning.
