Music is simply a combination of sounds and silences. Period. Metal meets that description.

So does rolling a box of kitchen utensils down a flight of stairs.

"his music was unlistenable"

So, that is your personal preference.

To call it "talentless" reeks of elitism.

Some folks eat Gelfite fish too which is an abomination to the senses, IMO.

"Furthermore, even if he had conservative political views, he didn't seem like the type of man I'd want my daughter to marry."

After reading all your posts on this thread I would never consider marrying your daughter to end up with you as my inlaw.

People who eat gefilte fish don't listen to Pantera or PluggedNickelBag.

Probably I'm wrong about Pantera having evil and satanic album covers. I based this on 4 album covers posted to one of these DimeBag threads. The images were small and at a quick look they appeared satanic.

Led Zeppelin may be a rock'n'roll giant, but I wouldn't classify them as a heavy metal band.

They were one of the first bands called "heavy metal"
FROM THE INTERNET:
The earliest music commonly identified as heavy metal came out of the Birmingham area of the United Kingdom in the late 1960s when bands such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath applied an overtly non-traditional approach to blues standards and created new music often based on blues scales and arrangements. These bands were highly influenced by American psychedelic rock musicians including Jimi Hendrix, who had pioneered amplified and processed blues-rock guitar and acted as a bridge between black American music and white European rockers.

Whether in Pantera or Damage Plan his music was unlistenable.

I'm sure that for you, it was. He was a really great guitar player though, and it disturbs me to see him declared "talentless" by people who really mean, "I don't like metal."

I'm an R&B singer by trade, and I used to think I didn't like it either, until a friend of mine introduced me to a lot of great bands that do more than thrash from the head of the tune until the end. (My favorite is Disturbed.)

In the course of that discovery, I learned that Pantera did some very cool, very interesting stuff (a couple of different grooves within a tune, guitarist trading fours with the singer and playing lines in cool sounding intervals, etc.).

Even if it's not what you like, you can still give a nod to Dimebag's ability. He was smokin'.

Anyway, I guess I've made my point (and probably a couple of enemies on FR- LOL).

One man's opinion. One could argue that Jimi Hendrix is the pioneer of grunge, even though they credit Nirvana for starting the genre.

It is interesting that you mention that - on the Judas Priest song "Metal Gods" (about robots that man created turning against us yadda yadda) there is the sound of a robot army marching, as part of the song fade out. It was actually recorded by dropping a tray of silverware on a table...

So yeah, it can be music too ;0)

"Oh, sorry, VVV, didn't mean to offend you. I guess the troops overseas would offend you, too since a lot of them listen to Pantera or Metallica and use them against those who call us infidels."

uh...maybe so they KNOW we're infidels, and run outside to kick it to us....so we can kill them ?....back....????

Smoke 'em out.

Feel free to disagree with me if you like, that's fine. I don't mind all that much when people disagree with me.

However, just do me a favor and ping me to a thread the next time someone you liked is murdered, so I can go on the thread and point out how stupid it is to care about it, k?

Have a nice day! :)

Well, that's understandable, because anytime someone mentions Heavy Metal, the first thing that pops into my head is "Satan", too, so... ;0)

Even the sounds of alarm clocks, the ticking of clocks, and bells and the human heartbeat is music. Those were the sounds heard at the beginning of Pink Floyd's song Time. Someone also mentioned the starting of a car and idling and revving of the car. Well, that was at the beginning of another Pink Floyd song, Welcome To The Time Machine. Van Halen's Eddie Van Halen used the vibration of power tools and chainsaws against the guitar strings to produce some pretty wicked guitar sounds.

Oh yea, Keith Richards. Now there's a poster boy for the drug free lifestyle.

And Frank Sinatra, he was as celibate as a Saint...
