A composite image of Uranus taken from the Keck telescope shows two sides of the seventh planet and its rings.
First, astronomers thought Uranus was just one star among many in the night sky. Even after 1781, when they knew better, there was little they could see the seventh planet was too far away.

Whoa. I was going to call for an investigation, BUT no probe is going there.

Beat you to it by 7 seconds. You would have been first if I would have checked spelling. Unanus = Uranus

Love the way scientists talk when they're guessing.

Hey, I got a message for ya from Pico and Alverado, and the rest of the kids at Commie Martyrs High - they wanted me to ask you: "Porgie, Porgie, you're a white man, what should we do?"

" Uranus is one of the four gas giants in the solar system, along with Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune. "
This is quite true and Uranus wouldn't have been discovered except for a significant pooterbation noticed in the orbit of Neptune in 1937.

Could be those rings are gaseous emissions"Maybe the heat bubbles out in one place," she said. "Or else it's trapped by the atmosphere surrounding Uranus and can't escape." ...

What's oddest about Uranus is that it lies and spins on its side, with its North Pole pointing about 8 degrees below its plane of orbit and its South Pole slightly above that plane. Astronomers believe some massive collision with another object knocked Uranus askew. Askew? Seems more like bent over.

"They're the fastest we've ever measured on Uranus," Hammel said. "They're starting to compete with the winds of Saturn and Neptune."
To funny! Measure it and lets get out of here before it blows!! lol

Uranus ping list. It's pronounced: OOOOO-ruh-nus, accent on the first syllable, which rhymes with "Glue."
(If you want on or off this list, don't tell me; I'll know.)

However, because the demand for time on the Hubble and Keck telescopes is so great, astronomers only get to see Uranus once or twice a year. I don't even want to go any further. Once or twice a year is enough.
