There are so many things that make FR great. It's my favorite place on the Internet and I am proud to support it financially.
However, there are a few things that have been getting under my skin too.
- Jokes about the "72 virgins" every time there is news of a Muslim terrorist being killed. Please. Over the last three years, every possible variation of the virgins joke has already been done. Hundreds of times. It is far, far beyond cliché by now.
- Jokes about spitting one's food or drink on the screen or keyboard, in response to someone else's humorous post. Again, every possible variation has appeared here a hundred or a thousand times over. I dare say 99.99% of them are exaggerations for comic effect. It's getting almost as banal as the virgins.
- FR slang (beeber, moose, cheese, hugh, series) in every thread, to no effect at all. At least donate to Jim if you are going to waste everyone's bandwidth like this.
- Over-zealous moderators who zap cross-posts from DU as soon as they appear. Prime opportunities for hilarity, gloating, and schadenfreude, especially after they lose an election, are lost forever. Can we assess these individually on the basis of their merits?

I don't think I could survive FR without Viking Kitties. Politics --especially durng election season -- gets way too serious (or is that series?) and vitriolic for my blood pressure much of the time. The Kitties make me smile.

When you click on "browse" at the top, all subsections should appear to the right (above the the sidebar headlines)
(Browse by Forum) Select the forum you want BEFORE you click POST otherwise you will post to your current forum (which almost always is News/Activism).

I wonder if there is a bug, or something confusing about the form interface, that makes vanities end up in NewsNo, there isn't; go to the forum where you VANITY belongs and post it there!

What's sillier still, are FR's Libertarian s who claim that they don't agree with ANY of the LP platform, but still cavil about what "good" Libertarians they are and how everyone else is a mordant idiot for not being one. LOL

People who whine and complain about FreeRepublic instead of reading articles on FreeRepublic, posting new articles on FreeRepublic, and replying to still more articles on FreeRepublic.

1. People who can't get off Soros being Satan. We know.
2. People who can't spell, or, evidently, use spellcheck.
3. People who have no clue that
A) logic requires opinions be SUPPORTED with facts;
B) facts are not what your daddy and mommy or the GOP
tell you, but things that are immutably true.
C) asking for a claim to be cited is not rude,
especially when google inevitably is slow and time
consuming.
4. A necessary corollary to this complaint: those folks who ALWAYS ask for a cite--c'mon, some things ARE just too easy to find, and quickly, by yourself.
5. People who change headlines in titles.
6. Anti-Catholic or other religious bigotry.
7. Generally, prejudice without foundation.
8. People who post huge anti-Clinton screeds full of graphics and links in the middle of threads that only tangentially touch on the Satanic Duo.
9. Watching anyone who mentions anything negative about Bush eviscerated by the death of a thousand neocon cuts.
10. The United Nations' continued existence and American funding thereof.

I just have to ask about your screen name.
Is there a lot of risk of folks dubbing you shapka broham?
How often have you been inadvisedly dubbed shapka broham in the past?
If someone were to dub you shapka broham, what consequences would result?
Has being dubbed shapka broham been a significant problem for you in the past?
