There are so many things that make FR great. It's my favorite place on the Internet and I am proud to support it financially.
However, there are a few things that have been getting under my skin too.
- Jokes about the "72 virgins" every time there is news of a Muslim terrorist being killed. Please. Over the last three years, every possible variation of the virgins joke has already been done. Hundreds of times. It is far, far beyond cliché by now.
- Jokes about spitting one's food or drink on the screen or keyboard, in response to someone else's humorous post. Again, every possible variation has appeared here a hundred or a thousand times over. I dare say 99.99% of them are exaggerations for comic effect. It's getting almost as banal as the virgins.
- FR slang (beeber, moose, cheese, hugh, series) in every thread, to no effect at all. At least donate to Jim if you are going to waste everyone's bandwidth like this.
- Over-zealous moderators who zap cross-posts from DU as soon as they appear. Prime opportunities for hilarity, gloating, and schadenfreude, especially after they lose an election, are lost forever. Can we assess these individually on the basis of their merits?

Hi ccmay-
When dealing with the topic of terrorism, many posters feel compelled to talk about "dunking our bullets in pig blood" and then wrapping the bodies of these dirtbags in "pigskin" before burying them.
It was intriguing the first couple of times it was suggested.

What would be better yet is that everytime we think of something new, we start yet another vanity thread. And it would be even better yet if we place it in breaking news.
:-)
Here it is!

I wonder if there is a bug, or something confusing about the form interface, that makes vanities end up in News. I agree, I don't want them there and I thought I had made that clear in my selections. The forum you post to is the forum you are in when you select "post" at the top right no matter what you select on the post form. The selections on the form won't change the forum. Maybe that needs to be added as an option at the top of the form -- "forum select" or something.

1. Unnecessary insults and overzealous responses to differing opinions. Example:
Post:
"Well, I think Arnie is doing a pretty good job"
Answer:
"You're an idiot. Can't you see that he's a RINO. Come on pal, get with the program. Or are you so stupid you can't see past your RINO nose."
Sheesh. Put some ice on it.
2. Aggravated responses to the humorous threads or FR slang. I don't use it, mainly because I'm new and not real sure how to use it, but I just don't see why it's such an important issue that it becomes a bone of contention. Summary: Who cares? It's not that series. It's not hugh.
3. Mauling a suspected troll. Sometimes the person is innocent and gets verbally SHREDDED. Watch yer zots. If the person has been on the forum for years, chances are they ain't a troll. It's fairly simple to review their previous threads.
4. Not using "Vanity" on posts.
5. Misspelled words/Grammar Casualties. It's obviously TOO much TO ask for people TO spell check TWO times. THERE, I said it for all those people who don't remember THEIR grammar.....
6. Missing a Viking zot. I hate that.

Agree on #4 - well, all of them actually, but especially #4.
I regularly stumble onto threads where the now-banned troll has apparently carried on a discussion, only to find that all of his/her posts are "pulled." I understand that this is a private forum and we don't want the trolls and DUmmies to take over, but I'd kind of like to see them allowed to suffer a little longer so maybe I can get to join in on the "kill." Is there any way to ban them without losing the valuable proof of their stupidity?

We need to be conservatives first and stand for principlesActually, my FIRST pet peeve on FR is people who say that Republicans don't have principles.

The
*EvoFreeps who claim to be conservatives but side with the ACLU, liberal school systems, pro-abortion rights, etc...all the while distorting The Bible and slandering God and Jesus.
*EvoFreeps are those who worship the idol of evolution and frequent the "science" threads on FR. Bring a barf bag with you if you are conservative and Christian and plan to go on a mission trip there...

1. Posters who have zero sense of humor. Especially those who get extremely upset when a joke goes over their head.
2. Posters who post the exact same thing (word for word) that someone posted 2 minutes before. Not really a peeve, but I think these people must have short term memory problems.
To: ccmay
Sometimes the things you describe bother me, but I don't take it too seriously. Usually it's an indication of a thread just being bumped until someone says something serious, which doesn't always happen. You always have the right not to read, not to respond, or to post your own articles. Let the others have fun. It's not like it's not paid for.

Select the forum you want BEFORE you click POST otherwise you will post to your current forum (which almost always is News/Activism). Maybe we would all be spared misdirected vanities if posts went to Chat by default. Make News/Breaking etc. have to be specifically selected.
I've posted dozens of times over the last five years but never ran into this problem before. Probably because I very seldom post vanities.
