In other news, Butch Davis of the Cleveland Browns is out, also.

Urban Meyer is almost certain to replace Willingham.

With Willingham out -- and after the recent firing of New Mexico State's Tony Samuel and resignation of Fitz Hill from San Jose State -- there are now only two black head coaches in Division I-A: Karl Dorrell at UCLA and Sylvester Croom at Mississippi State.

Isn't it amazing that to some people, this is the most important fact! Women make up over 50% of the population, but how many Division I-A coaches are women?

Good grief, is this all they think about?

I wonder why this had to be included. I thought race was not supposed to matter.

...he can now join Frank Solich in the "I really shouldn't be running a Major College Football program" club...

Butch Davis ought to go back to the Cowboys where he built that number one defense. They need it desparately.

As for the black head coaches, where's Johnny Cochran on this one. Why this oughtta be a hiring practice? You get points for hiring a minority. Some sort of kick back. Something's got to be done about this one. We can't be a havin' these sort of practices in these universities. This is an outrage! I don't care what kind of record Willingham has there.

The fact that he's a minority is what matters most. And Notre Dame calls itself progressive. What is this...the 1930's? :) Denote sarcasm.

The University of Notre Dame announced Tuesday that Tyrone Willingham will not be retained as its head football coach

Celebrate good times, come on!

I did not think the University had the nerve to fire this incompetent failure. I am so glad I was wrong, bring back the gruden rumors!

Me thinks the Athletic Director is deflecting blame for continued failures by firing a coach who became a mentor to some young talent that would've soon blossomed had their tree not been uprooted.

I want to start a UNLV for Ty campaign. We need a great football coach to bulid up the program. This is a chance for Ty to gain the greatness he will not achieve anywhere else. Sure he can go to Florida or another top ten school and win. But it takes a special coach to build a program.

Las Vegas is becoming a huge city. In the 80's and early 90's everyone wanted to be a rebel basketball player. Why cant the same be done for football. Plus we have some of the greatest nightlife in the world and the most beautiful women one mile from campus.

We want Ty or Urban or Butch Davis. Come on coach. Step up to a real challenge!!!
