Blue states depend on red counties to pay for the services demanded by the privileged in blue cities.

If secession is the talk, you might check with the counties that are fed up with affluent people not paying what it costs for public transportation or other subsidized services that you demand from those less fortunate. Cities consume more money than they generate and yet those who use services who have money don't pay what they owe. Why should a lower middle class family in Springfield Mass be responsible for contributing to mass transit for unbelievably wealthy people who live in Back Bay and Beacon Hill? People who are not poor and use mass transit should pay the full cost as they go and then should also pay for the poor to ride free.

But that doesn't happen. Boston Harbor was made dirty by Boston, but Boston wouldn't pay for it (again, it's hard for those outside blue states to understand how expensive property is in Boston) and demanded that the US taxpayers pay to clean it up. Then Boston "needed" a Big Dig for no apparent reason other than to spend other people's money, to asphyxiate drivers stuck in the tunnel during a traffic jam or to drown them (there are now 400 leaks). All the same traffic was plowed under the city again for no valid purpose and for no relief of the traffic jams.

You plan, you spend, the plans fail, you blame someone else and then you throw a fit if someone else doesn't take the problem away for you.

PS Why are charitable donations so much higher in red states than in blue? Especially when there is a high concentration of affluence in blue states.

I suspect that the lack of uptake is based more on the fact that you have a bizarre means of communicating 'amicable separation' than anything else.
