I heard an ad right before the election that was particularly nasty and sponsored by the UAW. I live in Philadelphia. I tend to buy American cars because I like the idea that they are made by my fellow Americans. I wonder if anyone else does likewise. I would be surprised if Republicans didn't tend to buy a higher percentage of cars made by American Corporations than Democrats. My neighborhood votes mostly Republican(even though we are in the City of Philadelphia) and the majority of cars are American. My sister, now deceased, was a liberal and would not buy an American car if they were 80% off. Liberals and Democrats in my experience just seem to think everything American is evil or rotten or both evil and rotten. She once needed a valve job at 16,000 miles on a Toyota she had bought brand new, and told me that it wasn't Toyota's fault,she must have done something wrong,even though she couldn't think of what it was. I hope she wasn't surveyed by JD Power, because she wouldn't have reported the problem. To the point, should I be buying cars made by the United Auto Workers when thay trash my candidate and are so proud of doing so? Aren't Toyotas built in Tennessee, a state that votes Republican? Do they have that same union there? I'd buy a Volvo,owned by Ford, but not made by UAW, but I'm not a College Professor and don't want to be mistaken for one. Anyone know of any stats on who buys what cars, based on Party affiliation? Philly J
Most of the UAW workers I know voted for Bush.
In our family (husband and children) there are six automobiles. Four are Chevy's, two are Fords.
Good question -- I wonder if UAW might want to think about this.
It doesn't really matter about the brand in this case because it's still UAW workers in the factory. If your intent is to punish the unions, then buy used.
Also, just because it says Ford, GM or Dodge doesn't mean that it's made in America. My Dodge truck was assembled in Mexico.
My husband is UAW. We just throw the political stuff away as soon as it hits the mailbox. The rank and file does not vote lock-step anymore. There are some but I noticed this election that some were torn between their allegiance to UAW and their moral values. The UAW isn't as strong as it used to be. I think there are only 165,000 members now, that # could be wrong but I think that's what I heard. The UAW is the same in all the states. Cars are not 100% made in America anymore. Some parts are overseas. I hate to say it but we won't be new cars anymore. We only buy used.
I buy American worker. I drive a jeep and my wife drives a honda, both made in Ohio.
LOL! The Fords are work trucks. My husband and our son-in-law drive those. My daughter drives the Chevy Tahoe, my daughter in law and I drive Suburbans. And the best part -- we all have "W" stickers!
We are conservatives and we do not buy UAW made.
Period.
Maybe when the UAW rank and file votes out the commies that run their orgs, we will reconsider.

I really agree that the U.A.W. leadership has lost touch with their members and the members are much more conservative then the leaders.
The old U.A.W. leaders like Walter & Victor Reuther are dead now and things have changed along with the definition of Democrat.
Did you see one of the last speeches given by Victor Reuther on the "Westfall Papers" on the web?
