Actually, I was on track for the 1996 Olympics before getting injured, and I took a gold medal winner to her HS prom, but let's not go there.
You miss the point about Americans, ignoring for this argument Native Americans, there is no American ethnicity. We are a nation of immigrants, and people who come here become Americans when they take the oath of citizenship. Albert Einstein was an American. I am speaking out of neither patriotism nor nationalism. And athletics are but a small part of it. The facts speak for themselves. Since America's emergence as a world power in the mid 19th century, Americans have been responsible for most of the technical and scientific advancements this world has seen.
Oh, and by the way, I have great respect for the German people but when you say "Sure you kicked our asses in the 1940's, but we had Russia and the UK to deal with," you are ignoring the fact that the United States was fighting a whole other war on the other side of the glob simultaneously.
How did they figure out the durations? Sit in the bedroom with a stopwatch or something? Eeew.

I'll take my car over a man.
I know where it's been.
It takes me where I want to go.
It never complains.
It's big and safe.
When I am home, it is home.
It never makes me watch Steven Segal or Jean Claude Van Damme movies.
When I want to get a new one, no complaints, no crying, no hurt feelings.
Stop spewing. You're 7 minutes are up. LOL.
If something smells like pizza, looks like pizza, tastes like pizza it is no hamburger, even if you call it like that.
And now go and lecture someone else.
Huh? I have no idea what you´re talking about.
What am I talking about? Simply, that "American men" are not the best. That there is no best nation, and that being the best is an attribute for indivdiuals. In relation to the number of athletes, the US team was not the most successful, and by far beaten by the Chinese.
That's what she said.
Michael, you need to understand one thing about American Athletes. Unlike the rest of the world, our athletes are not supported by Governmebnt Money. All of it's support comes from private donations. Not a single dollar of tax payer's money is expended on that cause.
America was not the decisive factor in the war against Germany in WW2 - unlike WW1. Stalingrad - and no other event - broke the Wehrmacht. And don´t underestimate the fights that were bought from 1939-1944... even in the last months the German army was quite "successful" in killing the enemy (I could remind you of the battle of Hürtgenwald: 55,000 dead GI´s compared to 15,000 Germans). But we shouldn´t go into details, my point is, that the performance of the individual matters, and nothing else.
My 72 Cutlass got more action than those pretentious cars. Then again at age 18, I was definitely on the prow most of the time which explains my lack of funds and the necessity of driving an old hotrod.
This may be Brit-prop or not, I don´t care. I have a German car that works fine, and I would choose it over the same class of Ford, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Renault, Nissan, etc. - As always, the individual performance matters, and the "best" is relative to your needs and taste.
Actually, you came in because of the Brits in 1917 and 1944. The Brits alone were not capable to start a invasion in 1944 so they called you... and you came because you didn´t want the Soviets to succeed alone.
You completely miss the point that individuality matters.
Btw, in Athens, the US team was not the most successful, because in relation to the number of athletes, other teams (incl. China) were far better.
That applies to most of our athletes, too. One third of ours are soldiers.
See, I even have empirical data now to bolster my choosing over the Lexus.
