Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 10, 2004
The Verbivores | 11/10/04 | Teacher

Posted on 11/10/2004 5:08:15 AM PST by RikaStrom

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

seriatim \sir-ee-AY-tim\, adverb, adjective:

1. In a series; one after another.

"Two days from the opening of the impeachment debate, gangs of television crews moved through mostly deserted corridors, doling out their 15 minutes of fame seriatim as individual lawmakers stepped up to batteries of microphones."
--The New York Times, December 16, 1998

Etymology: From Latin series, meaning "row, chain," and is formed on the same model as verbatim ("word for word"), literatim ("letter for letter") and gradatim ("step by step")..

Good morning Miss Rika. Good morning xs.

xs, I'm glad you liked my submittal yesterday. I didn't have time for much as I was on a quick break from all-day "Train the Trainer" meetings, so I only had time to come up with the one anagram for the word. But then, I figured I wasn't going to top that one anyway.

As for the "Orgasmatron" thread you pinged us to, that kind of sounds like a name for a cheesy sci-fi porn flick.

you are the dream interpreter, i had a vivid dream right before i woke up. i dreamt that i had to drive the kids to Cincinnati, by myself and we were already getting a late start and it was going to be some monstruously long drive. i had to go to the bathroom and didn't want to start on the roadtrip with a full bladder so i stopped at a gas station and there was this hugely long line, and i had all of these arab women getting in front of me! i was making no progress in the line bc all of them kept getting in line ahead of me! is that weird or what!

Cincinnati? That's your subconscious getting you to warn me not to take that job in Cincinatti. OK I won't. Heck I'm not even sure how you spell Cincinnati

My, my......someone on the left actually gets it!!!

Democrats turning blue out in cold

Democrats are in a funk over the election, not just because President Bush won re-election but also because they can't get the image of America's bright red face. Red states, representing Republican political domination, spread over the map of the United States from Ohio to Nevada. Blue states, where Democrats have power, attached to the East and West Coasts like frostbitten ears, with a few more blue freckles here and there.

snip

You have to understand America to lead it. The Democrats have some studying to do.

I got into a total pissing contest with my wacko neighbor last night right on my deck-she is off her meds again, manic and downright incoherent. Without going into detail (I'm too mad to do that right now), I decided that sweet treachery will be more effective than slapping some sense into her-and besides, it won't get me arrested, which I might have been last night if hubby hadn't quite literally stayed my hand(s). So after I finish work today, I'm going to talk to a couple of people who can have that wretched woman "watched over and taken care of" as a cop I know always says...

You have to understand America to lead it. The Democrats have some studying to do.

And to understand it, you have to be like it, and to like it you have to be comfortable with it. They have a looooong way to go.

A very long way.

Which is good for us. Imagine if they got smart and nominated Evan Bayh. Did you see him on O'Reilly last night? My only GOP loss senario for '08 is Bayh vs. Guiliani.
