~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XVI~
November 6, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Open Field Runner

In the open field
Emily chases the Ball.
It's all that matters.

It arcs above her,
Bounces; she jumps and grabs it,
Running the whole time.

Her ears flying back,
Legs, hips and shoulders working;
Grinning, ball-filled mouth.

Bow-leg'd Emily.
In a graceful arc she runs,
Bringing back the Ball.

The joy of the Ball!
The joy of running full speed!
It's all that matters.

Good morning, Sam!

Nice opening poem this morning. Great tunes in the Lair, too.
This morning we have snow on the ground-not much, but looks to have ice mixed with it.

I have to go out this noon to get me hairs cut.

Hope the sun melts some of the stuff before I have to strike out!

Afternoon everyone. I figured I'd finally drop
in. Been trying to think of something to write.
I have ideas, but only half formed.

Give her time, give her time. Did you read some of the wonderful stuff our poets have been writing? Any inspiration from them??

An email gem.....

God's Wings
A little something to put things in perspective...

An article in National Geographic several years ago
provided an interesting picture of God's wings. After
a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest
rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the
inferno's damage.

One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes,
perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a
tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he
knocked over the bird with a stick.

When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried
from under their dead mother's wings.

The loving mother, keenly aware of impending
disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the
tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinct-
tively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She
could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon
her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat
had scorched her small body. The mother had remained
steadfast. She had been willing to die, so those under the
cover of her wings would live.

"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings
you will find refuge." (Psalm 91:4)

Being loved this much should make a difference in your
life. Remember the One who loves you, and then be
different because of it.

Please pass this on to people
you want to be blessed. Please read on.

To realize the value of a sister
Ask someone who doesn't have one.

To realize the value of ten years:
ask a newly divorced couple

To realize the value of four years:
Ask a graduate.

To realize the value of one year:
Ask a student who has failed a final exam.

To realize the value of one month:
Ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of one week:
Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of one hour:
Ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.

To realize the value of one minute:
Ask a person who has missed the train, bus or plane.

To realize the value of one-second:
Ask a person who has survived an accident.

To realize the value of one millisecond:
Ask the person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Time waits for no one. Treasure every moment you have. You
will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone
special.

To realize the value of a friend:
Lose one.

I noticed LunaRed, but wasn't really paying much
attention. I've been in a bit of a mental catatonic
state for a while, so I figured I shouldn't say anything...
just in case it came out something like "slaaaa....".

Trying to write something & I hit a
bump... I can't think of an ending.

Oh, the image of Ma's Northwest state
With the snow upon the ground.
Creates in me a mental skate
Concentric, round and round.

Boyhood days down sledding
'Til we no longer felt our toes.
Snowmen in the pasture, treading
'twixt last seasons fruitful rows.

Those days, burnt, forever past
Oh, please, return to me!
I feel the present fading fast
It's all I care to see!

If it's not to be, it will not be
I cannot change the weather.
So I'll sit, eyeing, warm and cozy
The dance of Sarge and bentfeather.
