~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XVI~
November 6, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

Posted on 11/06/2004 8:40:53 PM PST by Soaring Feather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

WOO HOO Football in the Lair. Good.
We need some noise here, the roaring of the crowds, the smell of winning and the tears of defeat!
Thank You, Diva.

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Robert Frost?
One of my references to Robert Frost, (even though my wife doesn't seem to like his work...)

A Cool Draught

The brook flows full, with clarity, cool pleasure, and with haste,
The flowing stream’s a resource, with a gentle, pleasant taste.
Too fast for growing tepid, too slow for turbulence,
One wonders what the brook receives, in its just recompense.

If raindrops are a blessing, from a distant warming sun,
This brook is full from blessings, and not for what it’s done.
It just receives the current thoughts, and passes them on through,
And you perceive the breadth of it, and comment on the view.

The brook is lovely, dark and deep, like woods within the frost,
But it won’t tell, for much of it is tears that have been lost.
Some say it only babbles, there’s little meaning here,
But you can hear it if you have the proper kind of ear.

The ear that hears a heart sound in the gurgle and the splash,
As thoughts careening forward shove each other in their dash.
The meaning of the sounds you hear is that all life is good,
But most of this deep message falls on ears of only wood.

HOW TRUE IT IS

Another year has passed
and we're all a little older.
Last summer felt hotter
and winter seems much colder.

I rack my brain for happy thoughts,
to put down on my pad,
But lots of things that come to mind
that make me kind of sad.

There was a time not long ago
when life was quite a blast.
Now I fully understand
about "Living in the Past"

We used to go to weddings,
football games and lunches.
Now we go to funeral homes,
and after-funeral brunches.

We used to have hangovers,
from parties that were gay.
Now we suffer body aches
and while the night away.

We used to go out dining,
and couldn't get our fill.
Now we ask for doggie bags,
come home and take a pill.

We used to often travel
to places near and far.
Now we get sore asses
from riding in the car.

We used to go out shopping
for new clothing at the Mall
But, now we never bother...
all the sizes are too small.

We used to go to nightclubs
and drink a little booze.
Now we stay at home at night
and watch the evening news.

That, my friend is how life is,
and now my tale is told.
So, enjoy each day and live it up...
before you're too darned old!
