~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XVI~
November 6, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Who Paints the Clouds

Who paints the clouds up in the sky
The ones we so often see passing by?
Is someone up there with a big brush
Painting each cloud with a silent touch?

Surely they deserve some Nobel Prize
For their ability to paint on the fly
And for their multiple-colored clouds of hue
Contrasted so beautifully against a sky of blue

Who is this painter that forms and shapes the clouds
Then scatters them over the globe like a colored shroud?
The painter lets us see in them what we want to see
When we unleash our imagination and let it run free

The painter deserves some recognition too
For the rainbows we see when the rain is through
We could bestow on this painter world-wide fame
If we only knew the cloud painter's name

Good morning, Sam!

I love today's poem. It is so well written. Thanks for tunes, and Breakfast this morning and opening the Lair.

I'll get to the tunes in a bit. Gotta have some of your coffee first.

Part II
The ringing, ringing of the bells
the rat-a-tat of the drums from hell
a howling wind did foretell
the bloody reign from the sand
the bodies walked the land
and soulless evil did fulfill
the age of bloody rule until
the Stars and Stripes cleared the land
holding forth elections grand
and
FREEDOM rang throughout the sandy land...

To: Old Sarge; All
Before the Heavenly Gates

Before the Heavenly Gates, he stood
just recently part of that brotherhood
that holds them, each one, dearer than brother,
a kinship unlike to none other.

He stood still, in awe as those Gates swung wide,
awash in the light of the glory inside,

His once-proud uniform torn and unmade,
pale where the desert sun caused them to fade,

encarmined by the blood of his foes, and his own,
no prouder medals could his valor have shown,
but bathed by that glorious, celestial sheen,
he stood tall, and mended, and spotlessly clean.

And there, from within those gilded doors,
strode a Figure far greater than the mightiest wars,
strong and gentle, humble and proud,
who adressed the newcomer in a Voice great and loud,

"Halt, thou! Who goest there, be it foe, or friend?
A soldier whose story hath reached but one end?"

The soldier snapped to, to Present Arms he came
as he knew who this Figure was, and knew His name,
his voice was hard-sounding, a gravelling sham,
but in a hoarse whisper, he replied, "Here I Am."

The Figure at The Gates, at Attention as well,
returned the salute, and the Voice came to swell,
as the command rang out and the light seemed to spread,
"Advance and be Recognized!" was what He had said.

The soldier moved forward, front and center he stood,
and That Voice said, "Soldier, thy report has been good,
Thy name is on roster, as well as The Book,
for the path that thy life and career betook!"

"Now come, enter thou, and take up thy post,
for thy place awaits thee, in The Heavenly Host!"
And as the soldier passed through that glorious gate,
a mighty chorus rose, from Those who await:

Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard though the angels sleep
Through all the ages safely keep
The Mansions of the Lord.

I'm happy you like it Sarge, it's always my pleasure.

It's not the frame-it's the power of your words.
