My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Good morning, Sam.
Very appropriate poem for the season. Thank You for your service to our nation.
May your wishes all come true Sam. Your steadfast friendship and loyalty to the Lair will never be forgotten.
Now, get to the shopping.

Okay, I finished the poem.
I'm beginning to think I have a caffeine leak. Gah, I hope I've not developed an immunity to it!
Happy Birthday, Jesus
Happy Birthday, Jesus! Thanks for lending us your ear!
I know it isnt pleasant watching what we do down here.
I must request a favor, even though I shouldnt ask,
Considering how poorly we performed a simple task.
You told us very long ago that we should, Love each other.
But instead of one big family, were brother killing brother.
I offer no excuses, we do the best we can,
Sometimes it is so difficult to love our fellow man.
We learned a lesson recently, to not ignore our neighbors,
That they might need some help when they set out to do their labors.
Their task of living gently, and with loving in their hearts,
And deciding for themselves whod be in charge there in those parts,
Was not made easy by a few, not a solitary one,
Who thought that all of goodness was provided by a gun.
When guns are used you have to counter them with force,
And those who live that way will die that way, of course.
Our soldiers are reluctant, they dont force our way on others,
For the Army is a teacher of the fact that men are brothers.
But we cant, and wont stand idly by while other folks must suffer,
Well take our chances with the guns, and that good guys are tougher.
Three-hundred million people, here in the U.S.A.
Will need your blessings and some strength, not just on Christmas Day,
Please guide us and sustain us, and help us see the light,
Thats more important to us than some snow on Christmas Night.
And when you pay attention as we call on you today,
Please keep in mind that there is one thing left to say,
You showed us how to do right, and respect those who are just,
Please keep us in Your thoughts as we pursue that which we must.
Protect the soldiers as they work to bring in all the lambs,
And help us to make sure that there are no more Viet Nams,
Where good men worked too hard, and we let stuff get in the way,
Please guide our hearts where they should on this our Christ Must Day.

"...where they should be on this our ..." Thanks. I had written it in the word processor, and cut and pasted ... I missed that correction. Throws off the meaning and the rhythm...
Perfection eludes me still, for some reason. It can't be the booze...

Very good, Bob!!
"Our soldiers are reluctant, they dont force our way on others,
For the Army is a teacher of the fact that men are brothers."
So true, and so little reported!!

I was a draftee, in 1967.
During basic training, when we lined up into formations, the taller soldiers were moved to the front, like something out of a Roman General's handbook. Putting the most ferocious-looking soldiers into the front ranks.
Color didn't seem to matter at all.

I walk these castle halls alone
there is no sound, but creaking bones
I listen for your footsteps to near
and pray soon your rap will sound
when together we will stroll around
ancients corridors which do abound
with an old and haunting moaning sound
as in the night when we do sleep
the ancient ones do walk and weep
and cry of loves lost long ago
new ones struggling along to go
of hearts beating deep and true
for the Dragonfly it's only you
The soul mate of my soul are you
the tried of the tried and true
the gossamer atop my wings
the very song that makes me sing
The loving walk some years ago
in mountains high and turned to gold
did hold in our eyes what we both did know
'tis the Dragonfly who owns the show

A silent and a chilly night,
the world 'round me asleep,
no night speech of plant or stone
disturbs this slumber deep,
except for me, one wayward traveler,
looking out into the night,
piercing cloud and misty airs
for one star's twinkling light.
The hostel's lamps are bright, inviting
weary travelers like me,
to take their rest from freezing roads
from windy rain and sleet,
tales of the road ahead
are swapped like royal coins,
and I elect to pass the nights
not leave or gird the loins.
But here with tankard, roasting meat,
and hearth-fire warm as love,
I invite you too - remain with me,
there's naught that you must prove.

You're looking mighty dapper this evening, Sarge!
A beautiful poem you've written, though the inspiration is a bit sad.
At least you're safe and warm, not stranded in your car along a highway like many have been.

Ah, that's very true, Draculette.
We're stranded nonetheless, but at least we're warm and safe, fed and dry.
A lot to be thankful for.

I welcome thee to this hearth
where bread and drink we may imbibe
take comfort here from the storm
of howling winds and treacherous roads
and sit the while with me this eve
of Hallowed Christmas and Hollied Halls
of cheerful songs way into the night.
The silent wander need not fear the journey
falling ever near
for thy keep is well endowed
and loves heart, too, enshroud
long nights on dry and dusty sands
in long far away ancient lands
The songs will echo over the miles
for we remember the brilliant smiles
of the dancer from this land
stepping ever lightly grand
ever stalwart ever grand.
The stars do hold you in their care.
