Free Republic State of Georgia ^ | November 5, 2004 | Broker

Change the Flag Graphic on the Free Republic Georgia discussion site? For the benefit of FR administrator, replys and comments are requested on this subject. The old "Stars & Bars" flag is the FR default flag. A flag which is no longer the State Flag. The new flag was approved this year by Georgia voters. Let FR administators act on our discussion.

"sonny-boy" LIED to every Georgian AND to the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Look, don't make me report abuse on you.

;-0

Maybe we should have a vote on it, since people are so all-fired up about having a vote on it. At least we would have one on FR.

"Sonny boy" will not be reelected. He's a dem in sheep's clothing anyway.

I do have a say so in the matter, I have a vote and a voice.

But I can promise you one thing, the flag is not going to be changed from what it is now. This is going to be the flag for a long time, and blasting other Georgians who have a differing point of view on the current flag isn't going to help anything.

I say leave the current flag until after the Mead/Bernes race (that will remind us all of Roy Boy and we'll be encouraged to vote against Howard Mead), then after Nov. 23 we probably should put up the new flag. Like it or not, it is the state flag.

But if it stays the same or is replaced by the new flag, I really don't care. It's just not that important to me

But see, then we can change the flag to the current and be reminded about Perdue/Purdue changing it without a vote.

If you really want to remind people of Barnes, let's put that gawd awful piece of PC pillow case someone in the touchy feely dept came up with as Barnes's flag. That'll pi$$ some Georgians off.

As a Georgian of only three years,(But I LOVE Georgia!!) I was fully as outraged over this whole debacle as many of the native Georgians.

I agree with you, but letting people choose is probably a fair compromise.

As I posted on the Georgia forum, the majority of my life and my service to the State of Georgia was under the '56 flag. My great grandfather, gg grandfather, and a host of uncles, cousins & in-laws served, bled, and died under regimental Battle Flags. It is a common link I share with them.

I have proudly served along side fellow Georgians, black and white, under the '56 flag. To a man, I never heard one iota of objection from a single soldier, regardless of race, to serving under it. And one black officer, who I will always count as a dear and trusted friend, would quickly dress down any non-soldier so poorly educated as to question its honor.

As I'll soon be retiring from service, I'll fly it as my salute to them and my years of service, as brothers-in-arms. If it's no longer an option, I think it is fitting I furl them altogether.

I don't think the flag should have been changed by Barnes at all. He succombed to pressure from Tyrone Brooks, and while I don't think Barnes lost solely because of the flag, I'm glad it was one of the many issues that brought him down. But that battle has been fought and we're not getting the old flag back.

I like seeing the old flag on FreeRepublic. I like seeing it when I'm driving down the road or when I go visit my sheriff (who keeps it on his desk). I don't dislike the new (Perdue) flag, though I agree he should have let us vote on all three - the old flag, Barnes' flag and Perdue's flag.

But my point is, when I say I don't care, it just doesn't matter to me which flag FreeRepublic flies. I understood the argument when there was talk of changing it to Barnes' flag, but now I understand both arguments and really don't care enough to side with either one.

I do, though, desperately want to see Howard Mead kept out of the court of appeals.

I don't know that it really represents unity as Georgians did not get to vote on the old flag. I really don't have a preference for the flag on FR. However, I would have voted for the '56 flag on the ballot. I never believed that it represented some racial oppression.

It is outrageous for Northern liberals and race demagogues to try to turn the Confederate battle flag into a badge of shame, in the process spitting on America's gallant warrior class.

Kudos to Ms. Coulter.

You may be totally correct. The Stars and Bar is a symbol of our heritage. Everyone reads it differently. However, it is not the Flag for the State of Georgia today

Actually, you are incorrect. The current Georgia State flag is the "Stars and Bars", a/k/a "the First National Flag", with the Ga. State Seal encircled in thirteen Stars. The '56 Georgia flag incorporated the "Battle Flag", or "Southern Cross", not the "Stars and Bars".
