The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Turkey on the barbecue....

We injected it with Lemon Pepper marinade. We checked out a few websites on doing this, and are using mostly indirect heat by using only the end grill and not the ones directly under it. The temp is now holding at 350 degrees with the lid closed. Some sites said to set it right on the grill but we figure we'll let it get mostly done in the pan like this, flip it over and around once or twice and then take it out and turn it right on the grill at the end to brown it on the outside.

Anyone ever done this?

Well, If he's not making progress, we can move him on to the grate. I figured he'd get too charred on the outside if he was on the grate the whole time (?) We ~think~ we'll put him right on the grate when he's half-to-mostly done.... And we don't have a lot of clearance under the grate for a pan, so once we put him on the grate, we can't baste it any more. Trying not to open and look too much - not till it's time to baste again.

almost as much as Illinois Nazis...

I've seen Illinois nazis up close. They were so pathetic, all I could do was laugh at them.

I've also seen American commies and NVA-lovers up close (Chicago, Days of Rage, 1970). They were NOT quaintly insane, but real bad guys. They wanted a war with the Chicago PD, and got one. I wound up within three feet of a minor skirmish.

Whenever I see film of the 1968 Democrat (few RATs in those days) convention, I still root for the cops.

And that's sleet and freezing rain, not snow.

When I send the knife, I'll let you know...right now doesn't feel like the right time. I'll keep you posted when I hear anything, too.

Phew! Made it! I left a bit early, 'cause it was starting in with the freezing rain.

White knuckled it all the way, and just as I was about to turn in and get gas, the rain started in harder...so I didn't. The gas light came on when I was about half a mile from home...but there's a gas station close by so I'll just have to fill up tomorrow.

It's baaad! And liable to get much worse.

Ha! Risky! Runnin' on empty!

My car is driving just fine! Guess we fixed the fuse problem! Unbelievable that it sat there for nearly a month and it was just a fuse! LOL!!

Glad you're home safe!

I have to run to the store. I then have an hour or so before I have to get to my friend's house for code warrior practice. Also I need to drop books at the library, find little baggies for Christmas cookies, finish baking Christmas cookies... bleah.

(And on a debate I missed: barbeque is a verb.)

Our turkey on the BBQ is going to work really well! We're glad because our oven doesn't work well enough to do a turkey. Good broil, no bake ;~D

Here he is, coming along nicely!

It looks great! If it's little nubbins start gettin' too dark, put some tin foil on 'em!

Our grill has been a life saver!

I had chicken wings for lunch...not OT's good kind, just the ones from the Walmart deli.

I am making my Alka Seltzer as I type.

They were not as hot as OT's...her's are the best I've ever had. These are spicy but not what I would call hot.

BTW, his name is Andy and he's a 21 year old Marine.

I sent you two more HH knives yesterday, so you should have one ready for Andy. Our most profound thanks still just isn't enough to salute his sacrifice and service.

You wouldn't believe the monstrous egg we got yesterday! The shell is fractured all over like it broke as it was coming out or something...it bulges out on one side. We're all betting it's a triple yoker It's really massive. Puffy laid it. She laid a normal one today...
