The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I've always liked the "Overlord's Daughter" list best of all the knockoffs. For a while I had the Overlord List posted on my wall. I don't right now because I need a bulletin board.

Do they have a list for Evil OverToasters?

Get a plant sitter. Someone who will be there (in city) to water it while you are gone. You could drop it off instead of letting someone else have entry to your apartment.

elf-boy, aka spiderboy, was in spider mode at my mother's on Thanksgiving weekend (during my lost keys episode). We had Spiderman on the tube. Well, he acts the movie out while he watches (wearing spiderman costume also). He was so completely entranced and unaware of his surroundings that he dove into a table leg.

All this week he had a purple and green goose egg just above his left eye. (Good thing he needed a hair cut. It covered the bump so that it was almost unnoticeable.)

All my friends are going home for Christmas too. Maybe one of the neighbors... not the ones who smoke, though...

Doubt spiderplant would appreciate tobacco. And it would smell odd when I got it back too.

The clouds are setting in. I really hope it will hurry up and rain and get it overwith. Tomorrow is the Christmas parade, and elf-boy will be able to be in it if it has quit raining by 1pm.

With cursed parakeet.

Sounds like the set director's instructions for the climactic scene of Death Stalks Us All (1937; Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff, Claude Rains, Basil Rathbone, and Cedric Hardwicke as "The Curator")

Had there been such a thing...

Mornin' all. Slow movin' at the Stormhands' household this mornin'.

On show weekends, we don't do Sunday morning church. After being there for 14+ hours yesterday and having to head back for three shows this afternoon, it'sa bit much. Pastor even tells us "you are absolved from guilt, sleep in."

We're supposed to finish the tree this morning. I've been up for about an hour and I just heard Nana and Luke up.

The show is going really well. The message is clear and most of the technical bumps have been worked out.

Jr. cut his foot on stage yesterday morning. He's barefoot in the Biblical scene. So we bandaged him up and I gave him my sandals to wear for the other three shows. I've got an old pair I'll take today. It was a pretty nasty gash, but he went on and finished the scene.

Jesus wasn't happy last night. It weren't really a "Silent Night" at the manger.

Nana came with two of the other daughters. Luke and the nephews went with them. She's doing amazingly well. As she says, she needs to build her strength up. That's understandable. But at least she's moving.

Absolute best thing that happened yesterday - Actor playing Santa goes out in the audience for the pre-show and talks with all the kids. Of course he knows a lot of them.

As he makes his exit during the actual show he's walking down the center aisle and he says "And I'll see you on Christmas Eve when you're fast asleep."

Yesterday, he walks down the aisle and pointed directly at Luke and said "And I'll see you Luke, on Christmas Eve when you're fast asleep."

It was pure magic.

Wonderful!

Good morning, I am the only one up... I'm about to go geed ponies breakfast.

Today we go to the beach house to make lefse.

Good morning!

Interesting read, as always, Corin! Glad it's going well - and Luke's moment was cool!

Hair...I've had lefse...I like lefse...but I know very little about the traditions surrounding it and don't know why it would be made ahead of time...if it's being made ahead of time. My Dad's family did a lot of the Norwegian traditions, but that was mostly the generation before him and it's all been lost. Wanna tell us about it? ;-)

I think it's the opposite of hawd.

Based on my reading of Little House on the Prairie or one of 'em books.

It's made ahead of time because it is a major production that takes up all the hands and counter space in the kitchen, and it keeps well.

I'll take pictures today, explain the traditions best I can and post it tonight ;~D
