The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I can only say that Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns while I've owned them).

You owned Ted Kennedy's car?

And there's nothing metrosexual about lighthouses. Durn inlanders...

Good morning! Happy weekend!

Today is a day of quick errands (on which we're about to embark), household chores (booo hissss), gift wrapping, and candy making.

You owned Ted Kennedy's car?

I'd be a lot better off if I did, perhaps...

I could carry it around in a semi-trailer tricked out as a Kennedy museum. $5.00 admission or so.

I could advertise it in interesting ways, year by year.

"See the infamous Kennedy murder weapon!"-- and they show up expecting a Mannlicher-Carcano...

...there's nothing metrosexual about lighthouses..."Metrosexual" IIRC includes "straight", just "a little too frou-frou".

I was given to understand by a -- very aggressive -- female of prior acquaintance that her extensive interest in lighthouses was structural in origin. The presence of lighthouses reminds me of her...

...and that's not necessarily a bad thing...

Good morning!

My to-do list...

Glue a small piece of trim back on the front of the stove

Move the big giant speakers that aren't connected (and won't be) from either side of the sofa to either side of the "entertainment center"; place the front speakers that are connected on top of them.

Move the bright lamp to the dark corner of the room; move the dimmer, more decorative lamp to the table at the other end of the sofa.

Lunch.

And then...I don't know what. Go to the museum, maybe...they have the traveling Shackleton show thru a couple days after New Years, and supposedly they've refurbished some of the permanent exhibits since I was last there (among other items, an 80-year-old wolf diorama...imagine seeing that as a child and then taking the gt. grandkids to see it later...and a pair of elephant tusks, one visibly containing the bullet that didn't kill the elephant...and the mummy of some Egyptian bureaucrat's wife).

Good morning!

Getting off to a late start here. My day isn't entirely my own, either - I have to drop my littlest sis off at a birthday party at two (Dad works Saturdays), and I can't leave her for another hour and a half for various reasons so there's a limit to what I can do between times. *sigh*

Good morning!

I have some stuff to do today but so far I can only remember the 'get caffeine' part.

I don't plan to stick around during the party...but you're right - I should carry a notebook as I'm wandering today! Down to the wire, I am...

Morning All; long walk for Gypsygirl today, beautiful sunny crisp day. She has developed quite an interest in birds, loves to stop and watch them fly into and out of bushes. Big doings tonight, the annual Company 'Winter Holiday Party' sigh. "black tie optional" hmmm. don't have a black tie, so that is a ~ good ~ thing it is optional. Off to the hardware store for PVC pipe glue. Got a mailing tube to prepare. :-)

Corin - how did the show go?

OT - take care with the 'forestry' work today, hard hat, check, safety glasses, check, leather gloves, check, saw, check. Work safely.

Righty!

Got the garage sort of cleaned out....cleaned out enough to get a washer and dryer through.

Guess I'll go saw a couple of cuts before the ballgame starts.
