The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hi Corin! How's Nana today? Even more important, how is Mrs. Stormhands?

Another source/supplement that is good is the E.D. Hirsch series on everything you need to know. I have the "Cultural Dictionary," "What Your Kindergartener Needs to Know," "What Your First Grader Needs to Know," and "What Your Sixth Grader Needs to Know."

Also, as far as I know, Texas state law does not require any formal notice of intent to homseschool other than withdrawing your child from the current school.

IOW, If I wanted to homeschool elf-boy (which I was >this< close to doing this year) next year, all I would have to do is not enroll him for next year. I would not have to report to anyone, or notify the public school (he has never attended public school) or anything.

How about Fulghum: "All I really needed to know I learned in Kindergarten"?

The Hirsch series is really good. I like the Well Trained Mind concept because it goes along with the developmental age of the child; the Logic, Grammar and Rhetoric Stages, each lasting 4 yrs. Each year is a time frame in history starting with the Ancients, going to Medieval, Renaissance , then Modern. The events are studied at the level of the child, then when they reach the next stage, information is added on and closer sources are used so that by the time the kids are in high school, they're using original sources for their research and study.

Thank God It's Friday!

That is not swearing. That is a sincere and heartfelt expression of praise!

'nother busy day today. But thankfully I'm done with "official" meetings until December. Now if I can just get the troll and Rasputin to leave me alone, I can get some work done.

Suzi - Nana is "some" better. She gets the brace off in about a week and a half. Mrs. is exhausted, but hangin' in there.

Good morning!

My goodness, poor newboy! Could he have been worried about Mom not being home??

I'm glad mrsnad went to the ER...they told me when I started having that roaring sound in my ear that I shoulda gone to the ER immediately. Instead, I went weeks. My doc told me it was just fluid in my ear and to take a Sudafed.

She was really visably shaken when I lost the hearing in that ear...

Ear problems are nothin' to fool around with...

Speaking of Shinagami, I watched episode 19 last night and am still feeling rather surprised. Wasn't expecting the grown-ups (even the nice ones) to get drawn into the story all the way.

And Takuto just keeps getting cooler.

Good morning! TGIF!

Get well wishes to mrsgnad...

Man...I'm having a completely scatterbrained day. Couldn't find the things I meant to wear, couldn't find my keys, couldn't find my USB drive...and by the time I found 'em all, it was too late to make breakfast. Then I went and left my coffee at home, so the chances of getting un-scatterbrained are slim, unless I can get away and find some caffeine.

Ugh...I hate it when that happens!

grrr... more coffee...

to clarify, mrsnad was gone till 0300 takin' thegirl to the ER fer an ear infection...

we had the Homeschool concert last nite, (she did a great job on the fiddle with mrsnad accompanying on the guitar) at 2100 when we were leaving she burst into tears because she was in so much pain... the little trooper held it in till the mission was complete... never let on before that she was hurtin'... God bless her... makes me proud...

Yep, a strong point of FMwS is that number of characters that get a real part and have actual development. "But wait! there is more!"

I use to wear my hair kinda like Takuto but no one ever told me I as cool like that... It must be the hat...

Heh...yeah, the ears are very cool.

But his shirt bugs me. He couldn't afford a whole one?
