The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good choice of rifles for the kitty. Winchester Model 70, small bore (.22LR) Bull Barrel, with bipod.

Drives nails at great distance, that one. Doesn't kick. :-)

Actually.....(see the itty-bitty little note down to the right of the bipod of the rifle :-), it's a Model 98 Mauser custom, built for light class 1000 yard competition. It's chambered for the .30-06 Springfield. Because it weighs approx 14 lbs, it doesn't kick much.

I can only drive nails at about 300 yards. At 525 yards, a 5 shot group spreads WAY out to a full 3/8". :-)

It's a joy to shoot though. :-)

That's a 30-06? Dang... it looks smaller than that. The model 70 was a blind guess. From this angle they all look the same.

In your defense, it looks a LOT more like a Model 70 up close too! But it's most definitely a Mauser, Model 98 (commercially manufactured large ring receiver).

I came "close" to having it chambered for 300 WinMag, but I didn't want something that killed in front and maimed behind. :-). I only weigh about 145lbs soaking wet!...so I went with .30-06.

It's a SWEET shooter. :-)

It's not like demigods grow on trees around here... :-)

Fer Baghdad Jim's district I had something else in mind. I'm still working on the details but it involved Mt Rainier and lava flows.

The whole state could become a conflagration zone if this is handled badly and calmer head don't prevail.

I'm not looking forward to this part...but I am glad that at least Rossi has won, no matter what happens after the fact.

Just one more stupid mess for Washington to be known for...

At least I can look forward to the long, sad faces at work again tomorrow, and the frantic, angry whispered conversations between the 2 certifiable flaming liberals there. Heehee, that's going to be very fun!!

While sending those kind of packages is neat.... our chief gadget geek wanted to send something more ~practical~,

Speaking of which.... a while back someone mentioned that the troops in Iraq were in need of brushes to clean sand out of gear. I bought a bunch and they're sitting in a box. I'm wondering who I should send them to so they can be part of the next shipment.

Good morning!

Good to hear Miss Cat is enjoying her new home, OT!

For the NaNoers...I didn't get much writing in last night. None, in fact. Luckily I had done some earlier in the day, but...I have my work cut out for me today if I want to get back to my scheduled goal.

The pub where we had the session last week wants us back! Cool... So tonight I'll be there. No writing time this evening, either.

We get a free meal at the dining hall today, I believe - a turkey dinner. Mmm...turkey. Mmm...free...

Hope that wasn't just a rumor, 'cause I didn't bring a lunch and I really don't wanna hafta pay.

Good morning!

I've been researching how one goes about reading one's gas meter. Apparently I can read it and enter it online. But I'm unclear on which DAY I should read the meter.
