The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I saw it too but I was giving him grace...

Ugh. Got insurance. Got dumbbell set. Got the first two of Lewis' Space Trilogy at the used bookstore - the hideous late-70s-covers! Yay!

Someday I'm going to do a Lileks on SF novel covers...

Dropping in for a little while (about two hours).

Looks like both the CIA and the State Department are about to get cleaned up. Condi should get some advice from Hair, since it will be much like cleaning up a stable, after 50 years neglect!!

That would imply the state department were inhabited by creatures as noble as a horse!

Evening LCS! Good to hear from ya.

I am trying to get ecurbh motivated to go out and clean stalls with me so we can put horses to bed. It's rainin' out.

It's rainin' out.

Naturally, you live in the Seattle area (says the Floridian).

Horses are noble, but what they leave in the stalls is somewhat less so, I believe.

Hi LCS! Nice to see you!

Ugh... just did a series weightlift workout. I'm all shaky. I've been lazy lately but Mom sent me a really good book with routines you can do with just dumbells. I got a set of adjustable weights and worked myself hard. I feel good...

And so I deserve Chinese food tonight. Good thing I already had plans to go out.

just did a series weightlift workout.

Better you than me!

Actually it would have been good if I had kept myself in shape over the years, a bit late now, though!

Hello!

Matthew is studying WW2 in school and there just so happens to be a documentary on right now on PBS about some POWs digging this LONG tunnels to escape a prison camp! Interviewing the escapees and everything.

Quite interesting.
