Jack Bogle, Vanguard mutual funds founder, voted for John Kerry

Jack Bogle, brilliant man and original founder of the Vanguard family of mutual funds, just said (on CNBC's "Squawk Box") that he voted for John Kerry. His reasons? Iraq and the deficit.

I'm no longer stunned by such things. Recent weeks have brought clear proof that otherwise intelligent people, of good moral quality, just don't care that John Kerry is a truth-stretcher and a serial opportunist in almost every aspect of his life, from his self-serving, falsified after-action reports in Vietnam to his two marriages to rich and then richer women, from his loathsome betrayal of his fellow Vietnam veterans to his flip-flopping on almost every major political issue of his time.

Why don't such things matter to people like Jack Bogle? I can't explain it. Far from cringing at the thought of a man like John Kerry becoming President, such people attempt to bring the nightmare into reality. Is there no sense any more that being President is an honor and a privilege which ought to be reserved for men who have shown themselves worthy?

When a man like John Kerry can even come close to becoming President, it's time to fear for the future of one's homeland.

I cringed when I voted for Bush for the same two reasons.

Both choices are less than ideal, but one is worse.

(Sorry if I upset the programming on any Bushbots or Hagiographic hopefuls.)

The second invalidates the first.
Guess I'll be ridding my portfolio of Vanguard mutual funds, with a letter to him stating the reason.

Finally, a reason to complete my roll-over.

Bye Bye Vanguard

Truth stretcher?

Have trouble calling a spade a spade, are we?

Liar is a word, and it's even in the dictionary.

I always would prefer voting for a treasonist lying traitor who trashed me, rather than I would a decent man who cared about our country.

Vanguard Funds recently were recommended by one of the talking heads at CNBC. I'm glad I didn't take her advice.

I think a lot of super-wealthy people vote Democrat.

One reason is guilt.
One reason is they think it's "smart." After all, all those professors they couldn't understand back in college are liberals.

But the biggest reason of all is the tax system. In America, we tax income, not wealth (at least at the federal level). It's the people trying to make it up the latter that take it in the shorts. The people who already have made it are insulated. They just stand in the tree-house door, smiling down at the poor shmucks who are trying to climb the rope ladder while fending off hordes of blood-sucking federal horseflies with one hand.

Jeez, what a shame. Vanguard funds have made me a bunch, allowed me to donate to FR, conservative causes, and buy lots of guns.

Well, Bob Brinker, long time supporter of Bogle likes it when one party holds the Presidency and the other party holds the Congress. This is an investors desire, because both parties are blocked from making many changes. However in this election, it implies that both parties will equally defend this country from terrorism. This is only valid if you believe a pacifist with a 20 year history of voting against this country's defense is now telling the truth about what he will do. I don't believe it, and neither should anyone else.

I should have placed a comment when I posted: I'm sorry that my second post to FR (my first post was pulled because it was a duplicate) is a vanity post. But Mr. Bogle's position seemed newsworthy to me. I'm not advocating that anyone change their mutual fund company, of course.

My hypothesis is that the business tycoons know that Kerry can be bought and they'll have free run of the country, pushing another bubble economy with phony accounting numbers, as they did during Clinton's eight years. To hell with "the little people" the Democrats always whine about. This is now the party of billionaires who ran Enron and World Com into the ground in the 90s. It would be like the U.S. Grant presidency when corruption ran amok, culminating in the Teapot Dome Scandal. That's what I think is going on here. And if I had any Vanguard funds, I'd be pulling my cash out of them TODAY!

Thanks. Seems to me this is 9.10 thinking. The liberals need to get up to speed and hopefully we'll have another four years to make our case.

No wonder Brinker has flip-flopped. Before the war he was one of the loudest supporters of regime-change. Now he makes it sound like he was against it to begin with. And his ranting on the seniors drug plan... Good grief.

And, darn it, the last sentence of the penultimate paragraph should have read:

Is there no sense any more that being President is an honor and a privilege which ought to be reserved for people who have shown themselves worthy?

I hope women Freepers will forgive the slight.
