Pssst, don't tell anyone but it's really only a couple of guys.. posting under various names but headed by Karl Rove.
The VRWC is really not so vast...

there are always about twenty people on at once. Varies from 500 to 5000 online at any time. There is a monitor page someplace, lots of stats.

There are around 100. But, we all have 2000 IDs, and keep hundreds of windows open. My entire ping list is myself I, for instance do not exist. I am entirely a figment of someone's imagination.

Actually there's only two - Jim and John Robinson. They created a program to simulate an entire community.
If this is one of those Matrix things and even I am not real, I AM GOING TO BE PISSED!

there are 15,000 Dem. Underground people. I lurk at DU often. They claim 52,463 user registrations since January 2001.
I don't doubt this number. I suspect however, greater than 30,000 have been tombstoned, if not over 40,000.
I know at least 50 names tombstoned are mine!
I have also repeatedly seen threads on DU asking how many registered users there are and the reply from the mods and Skinner (the owner) has been that that information is private.
I wonder how many non-tombstoned users they have that have posted at least once in the past month. I would like to see that number for FreeRepublic as well.

You are number 157498, but of course all the names ahead of you are not still active. About 50 of them are variants of "Ash" - a disruptor in 1998/1999.
