In a Q&A with Playbill magazine, Mel Brooks says that he's currently working on a Spaceballs sequel. Here's the clip from the interview which starts off by talking about the big screen adaptation of The Producers.
Playbill: Will you have a role in it?
MB: It's doubtful, but I'm writing myself back into the Spaceballs sequel that I'm now writing, so you haven't seen the last of my face. Why another Spaceballs? It wouldn't feel right have anyone else play Yoghurt and the first one was the best experience I've had making a movie since Blazing Saddles.
Playbill: When can we expect that?
MB: Best case scenario: a week before the new Star Wars opens. Worst Case Scenario: a year after the new star wars opens.
Stay tuned for more news on this as it comes. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith will be released in theaters on May 19.
I hope it is a 'prequel'.
Mels movies top my best ever list, with "Blazing Saddles" as #1.
I'm a big Brooks fan. Blazing Saddles and History of the World Part 1 are works of genius. Spaceballs sucked...well....spaceballs. I would infinitely prefer to see him do a History sequel. Or perhaps even a prequel. :-)
I'm not entirely sure that this is a good thing.
"What'd he say?" "He said the Sheriff s a comin."
Or maybe
"I'm tired, so tired."
Spaceballs:
John Candy: I'm a mawg, 1/2 man, 1/2 dog; I'm my own best friend.
Loved Blazing Saddles, but I give Young Frankenstein the nod.
Surely that's a sign of the End Times...
Funny she doesn't look druish
Hmm who will play john candy's part??
I may be a huge Mel Brooks fan but his movies of late haven't been that good, though I can't wait to see "spaceballs 3 the search for part 2"
"Schvartzes!!"
Could be right about that. Genre parodies are usually one shot things. Scary Movie is a good example. The 1st one was good but 2 sucked and I can only think of a couple of places I laughed in 3. The only chance it might have is if it focuses entirely on the prequels, which are not remotely comparable to the 1st three films.
I was hoping Mel would had produced a sequel to History of the World by now. If I recall, Mel had a notice to stay tuned to History of the World II at the end of History of the World I.
Hitler on Ice
Jews in Space
(I have the mel brooks history of the world movie book)
though don't forget Yogurt said in Spaceballs that they all would meet again in the sequel :Spaceballs2 the search for more money
(I think that was the title)
Mel Brooks has made some of the most funny movies ever...High Anxiety being among my all time favorites. He has also released some genuine turkeys...remember Life Stinks? To Be Or Not To Be?
robin hood men in tights
dracula dead and loving it
(great titles, but cruddy movies)
Lets hope we get the "high anxiety" brooks and not the "robin hood" brooks
The 12 Chairs is another good one.
That's why it should be a prequel. Then they can have a little puppy play him.
Abbey something or another. Abbey....Normal.
