FReeper Computer Guru Help Needed! (yay for vanities)

Okay, here's the deal. I'm trying to install an older build of Windows XP Professional over top of the one I have, since I currently have (for whatever reason) a build of WinXP containing the PREVIEW version of Service Pack 2. My Preview Version of SP2 is, for whatever, reason, unable to be uninstalled. Also, for whatever reason, Windows XP will not allow me to install an older build of the OS without booting from CD.

However, when I try to boot from CD to install, WinXP setup cannot recognize my hard drive. It is a "HDS72251" 160GB SATA hard drive (Hitachi, I believe) run by the HDS72251 6VLLSA80 SCSI Disk Device Driver in Windows XP.

Anyone have any idea how I could make a floppy disk containing the proper drivers (as well as a txtsetup.oem file) to force recognition of this disk so that I can reinstall Windows? Thanks!

If you installed Windows XP SP2 Release Candidate 1 or another pre-release build of Windows XP SP2, uninstall it by using Add/Remove Programs by following these steps:

1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2.
Click Add or Remove Programs.

3.
Select the Show Updates check box.

4.
Click Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click Remove.

5.
When the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Removal Wizard opens, follow the prompts. When the wizard completes, click Finish.

Note: If you choose to remove SP2, a dialog box displays a list of the programs that you installed after you installed SP2. If you continue with the removal, these programs might not work correctly.

SP2 Doesn't show up -anywhere- under Add/Remove Programs..that's pretty much the source of this whole problem ;)

1. Add/Remove programs--make sure to put a check mark in 'Show Updates' (You didn't say WHY you couldn't uninstall)

or...

2. Boot onto WinXP CD and go to Recovery Console. Sign in to it.
At the command prompt, type--or add as needed
Windows\$NTServicePackUninstall$\SPunist\Batch Spuninst.txt
-this is slow as it is through a DOS version of the Uninstall, also if you did not choose to archive files, you are out of luck.

In add/remove programs, did you check the "Show Updates" check box?

As I noted in a different post (I had to find a screenshot...) if you didn't choose the Archive Files option, you can't uninstall SP2 (including previews)...

What did you do at this step when you installed?

While we're talking computers, is there any way to restore something from a recently-emptied recycle bin?

And dare I install the XP update?

Ghost is probably the best utility ever created! It has saved my A$$ several times. Plus! as I'm sure you know never install a preview or beta of anything from Macrosoft.
I learned that lesson the hard way when NT4 release candidate zero was released. Yikes :) When Plug N' Pray was introduced it recognized my "New" drive and formatted it without asking and wiped out 4 years of work, Yeah, I love Bill Gates et al. )

Why not just back-up what you need then format the drive. If your motherboard's BIOS see's the large drive then you should have no prob with a re-install.
