The NYC subway did not close at all during the convention, according to a report on cable outlet NY1...
KERRY: Yes, we have to be steadfast and resolved, and I am. And I will
succeed for those troops, now that we're there. We have to succeed. We
can't leave a failed Iraq. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a
****mistake**** of judgment to go there...
LEHRER: All right, new question. Two minutes, Senator Kerry.
Speaking of Vietnam, you spoke to Congress in 1971, after you came
back from Vietnam, and you said, quote, "How do you ask a man to be
the last man to die for a mistake?"
LEHRER: Are Americans now dying in Iraq for a mistake?
KERRY: ****No****, and they don't have to
I never called Bush a liar (parphrasing)
Amazing that Bush let Kerry get away with blaming Bush for North Korea getting the bomb. Clinton gave them the material for the reactor and failed to monitor.
I can't remember but if he said he didn't have a hideous horseface then that was a huge gaff,,,
I think Kerry's "Bush is spending so much money on police and fire in Iraq" line is a loser. He says only he can win, but he doesn't want to spend money for body armor for our troops, he doesn't want to spend a penny prosecuting the war. IMHO, Iraq could use some police.
Kerry's positions are just indefensible.
"With respect to Iran" "I think the United States should have offered the opportunity to provide the nuclear fuel"
(directly from the debate)
*shiver*
He is? Last I heard he was in Pakistan or 6 feet under...
WMDs are coming over the border into Iraq everyday.
But I thought there were no WMDs?
Definitely a big shiver!
I think the Bush strategy in this debate was to stay on message, let Kerry attack, and then attack Kerry after the debate in the media.
I'm not sure how wise that was, but Kerry sure made some whoppers.
I wonder about this one:
During the debate, Kerry said: "There are some 600-plus tons of unsecured material still in the former Soviet Union and Russia. At the rate that the president is currently securing that, it will take 13 years to get it.
"I did a lot of work on this. I wrote a book about it several years ago, maybe six or seven years ago, called, 'The New War,' which saw the difficulties of this international criminal network. And back then, we intercepted a suitcase in a Middle Eastern country with nuclear materials in it, and the black market sale price was about $250 million. Now, there are terrorists trying to get their hands on that stuff today."
He said the Iraq was a mistake but he would compound the mistake by continuing to fight it"better." How, by getting support from the allies. Lehrer did not ask him WHICH ALLIES.
and Bush did not hammer him on the DeGaulle reference by saying that Kerry was fixated on French participation. even though no amount of prodding will make Chirac send troops into Iraq. Indeed, that the French has just said again they will not. The most they will contribute is the forgiving of part of the Iraqi debt. Ditto the Germans. Then WHERE are the troops to come from?
How about GLOBAL TEST?
"We were in Cambodia, around Christmas time, and I had my beeber stuned to Global Test mode. It was seared, seared in my memory."
How about leaving Poland out of the Coalition?
He mentioned something about greatly increasing troops? Is he planning on a draft ?
Here is the full Kerry quote. It's actually wackier than you said ...
"And now we see beheadings. And we got weapons of mass destruction crossing the border every single day, and they're blowing people up. And we don't have enough troops there."
**Hussein's Baathists fired missiles at our pilots "thousands" of times in the leadup to the invasion of Iraq.**
BTTT for that one!
In other words, his wife could buy one and have a cool quarter-billion left over.
