KERRY: "We intercepted a suitcase ... with nuclear materials in it" (???)
vanity | Sept. 30, 2001 | self

Posted on 09/30/2004 8:52:57 PM PDT by Madstrider

During the debate, Kerry said: "There are some 600-plus tons of unsecured material still in the former Soviet Union and Russia. At the rate that the president is currently securing that, it will take 13 years to get it.
"I did a lot of work on this. I wrote a book about it several years ago, maybe six or seven years ago, called, 'The New War,' which saw the difficulties of this international criminal network. And back then, we intercepted a suitcase in a Middle Eastern country with nuclear materials in it, and the black market sale price was about $250 million. Now, there are terrorists trying to get their hands on that stuff today."

Is this a real "suitcase nuke" incident? Anybody ever heard of this?

So you're saying that Kerry is just making this up? Like "Christmas in Cambodia"?

isn't it 600 tons of nuclear material that belongs to Russia. Are we buying it from them? Because last time I checked Russia was a sovereign nation.

Three possibilities:

1. He made it up

2. It's the truth & it's already been reported

3. It's the truth & Kerry revealed classified material

I don't know which.

What was that Weird Al song? "It's Christmas at Ground Zero" about celebrating the holidays during a nuclear attack...

"Nuclear materials" sounds an aweful lot like "Foreign Leaders" to me. Unless he's talking about a smuggled microwave oven, I think he's full of it. Of course I Think it would surprise no one here if the CIA has helping Kerry out a little bit, knowing what we know about the CIA.

I thought it was funny that Kerry made it sound as if he were on the ground and tackled the guy with the nuclear material. I say, nice try, horse-face.

My first thought was that it was one of those Red Mercury hoaxes that we heard about in the 90s.

Yeah, OK, but my point is this sentence: " And back then, we intercepted a suitcase in a Middle Eastern country with nuclear materials in it, and the black market sale price was about $250 million."

Does anybody remember this ACTUALLY HAPPENING? I've heard a lot of talk about hypothetical "suitcase nukes" but Kerry seems to be saying this really happened. When is "back then" and where is this "Middle Eastern country" he's talking about?

You nailed it. But surely Kerry wouldn't reveal classify material and then take credit for it himself. That would be something some nut would have say, Sandy Bergler do. Stuff code-word classified documents into your socks and sneak out with them, only to watch them mysteriously reapper as John Kerry's foreign policy strategy on his very own little website shortly thereafter.

My question is, how many licks DOES it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop. Or in English, how many felonies need to be committed before someone pays for it?

I know I haven't heard anything about it. I am pretty sure a suitcase full of nuclear material would raise eyebrows...before said eyebrows fell off along with the rest of their hair.

The New War : The Web of Crime That Threatens America's Security
by John Kerry

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
In a cursory overview of international crime, Senator Kerry (D-Mass.) implausibly calls for foreign criminal law to be imported into the United States to prosecute nationals of other countries who plan crimes here then conduct them abroad. His rationale is that weak or corrupt countries cannot effectively prosecute crimes committed within their jurisdictions. At the same time, he suggests that crimes committed against Americans abroad be prosecuted here in "special courts." He also calls for transnational asset forfeiture, in which victimized countries would share in the forfeiture of assets seized in cooperating jurisdictions. While well intentioned, the book is short on specifics and contains no revelations about international crime. For general audiences.?Harry Charles, Attorney at Law, St. Louis, Mo.

See more reviews at:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0684846144/102-2409126-8301730?v=glance

NOTE: In the reviews, absolutely zero mention of any specifics of apprehending nuclear suitcase.
I haven't read the book, but I have to believe if this is specifically written, it would be mentioned in one of these reviews.

Yes the nuclear facilities for the WMD that Kerry says don't exist and never could.
