Would someone please explain to me what an undecided voter is? Geez, I see in my mind this person, stoned on something saying, dudes, how should we vote man, I can't make up my mind, Kerry or Bush, well, inny menny minny moe...
This is the reason we need some sort of intelligence test, maybe even a drug test, to at least prove a person's brain is functioning.

this stuff is not a big deal tonight....I dont think there are but about 10 undecided voters in the world....hahahaha really...... the liberals were set up for this tonight....they had that media thing all ready for their goofs to send around... they sent emails around the whole day begging folks to do this or that....they are in a panic...NO ONE is going to vote for John Kerry because of what they saw tonight by him or by President Bush...... the people that really vote have already made up their minds and they'll give our President 4 more years based on his leadership.... IMHO

I like the way you think and I agree 100%.

Kerry was "senatorial." Bush was "presidential."

Well put....I just wish he'd been asked some tough questions about his terrible senate record!

I think the media will be spinning a Kerry komback based on his debate performance but the truth is Kerry didn't explain his position on Iraq. He's still stuck in his own mental quagmire!

In my opinion that's a spike of the moment

Well it seems to me that TradeSports and the Iowa Electronic Market are hardly budging. There is certainly no big movement to Kerry awary from Bush among those who are putting hard cash on the line. They seem to have declared it either a tie or as a non-event election-wise.

Not to say that I wouldn't have liked to see a jump in W's numbers but when you are winning you just need to keep on winning and that is what Bush is doing.

During the debate, I was convinced W was blowing it by appearing apprehensive and unsure of himself. Now that a couple of hours have passed though, my sense is that while he did not help himself tonight, neither did he lose any major ground.

At the end of the day, Kerry's base will be fired up because he won on debate points, but he did very little to win over the hearts of the undecideds. His positions are still murky, and the best thing he has going for him is the "ABB" appeal. We learned nothing from him tonight that we did not know already.

In short, he missed an opportunity as well.

I belive what you are speaking of is the group of 6 "Undecided" voters that they polled after the show.

Included in the list of "undecideds" were traditional Dim voting block people. All of them said domestic issues were more important that what was discussed tonight. If this is what will decide the "undecided" vote, I fear for our nation. A few more bucks in their pocket, a bit lower gas price, saving the money from fighting the war on terror and moving it over to social programs...if these decide the election, I fear we are in for our own version of the Russian school shooting...

"...was more forceful."

I agree. He definitely won on style. He is a more experienced public speaker, and W looked outclassed, tired, and worn down. Plus, his stammering and "uh's" did not help. If he loses the election, I would say it is because he does not communicate well at all in public.

By now, most voters have made up their minds. Kerry's attack dog tone might play well with the liberal press but I doubt it played well with undecideds (if there are any left). The President stayed on message tonight as he has out on the campaign trail. He spoke TO the voters and NOT at the voters. Kerry is arrogant and Bush is genuine.

The ABC poll shows nobody has changed their minds over this debate though.

I think people do believe he won the debate, but they want to see more, including the next two debates before deciding.

This is a big relief.....I was seriously concerned due to the utter humiliation that we would lose many points to Kerry tonight.....but I am now hopeful the polls won't really tighten now and pretty much stay the same.

I agree..

My only dissapointment is that I was really hoping for the knockout blow to come tonight :(

But now W knows what to expect from Kerry...this was like the first round of a heavyweight title fight, a "feeling-out" process...he'll improve a lot in the next 2 rounds.

Kerry was probably at his very best, and Bush at about his worst, and still Kerry couldnt really do any damage....

Not to mention he lobbed the RNC a nice big juicy fastball right over the plate with the "Glocal Test" hehehe...something tells me we'll be hearing a lot about this test in the coming days and weeks..... *diabolical grin*

cbn,

I have observed the debates since 1976. Only a few ever had moments that were smackdowns. Gerald Ford's bone head remark about Poland in 76. Jimmuh's seeking Amy's advice and Reagan's summation in 80. Dukaka's answer in 88.

Since that time, most debates have been characterized as draws.

Nice to see that you're getting some perspective on this thing tonight.

"Monica Crowley? That 530lb sweathog? "

You must be thinking of CNN's (Looks Like She Likes To Eat A Lot Of) Candy Crowley, not Monica:

George is smart enough to avoid a big gaffe. Tonight was Kerry's big opportunity to knock him off and he didn't. The town hall format will be much kinder to the prez and allow him to connect with people, as long as there's no ponytail guy in the crowd. The last debate will be on domestic stuff and most folks will be tuned out by that time.

Remember Kerry has defined this campaign as a referendum on IRAQ. He has not done anything tonight to show to the American people that it has become a quagmire. In that sense, Kerry was the loser.

Kerry was making smoke. How many times did he talk about some "plan" or another? How many times did he get specific? I wish Bush had gone after Kerry on his senate record - or lack thereof - but there are two more debates for that.

Don't be an idiot.

BTW, Candy Crowley is one of the few CNN reporters who actually tries to report it straight, similar to Lisa Meyers on NBC.

Anybody remember Clinton's speech in August 1998, where he finally admitted to having an affair with Monica? The polls taken right after the speech said he did a great job, and Clinton's spinners were all on TV saying he hit a home run. It wasn't until days later that it became clear to the media and the RATS that the speech was a disaster.

These are the undecideds that were watching the debate. Most were asleep, and will only see the news summaries and sound-bytes tomorrow. They won't see Bush's long, uncomfortable pauses. They'll hear that Kerry sends mixed signals, that Bush will use pre-emptive force to keep us safe, while Kerry use pre-emptive force if it passes the "Global Test".

Bush also wins the post-debate ad war. Kerry gave Bush a lot of ammo for Bush to use, but not the other way around. For example, Kerry continually referred to our Iraq effort using different forms of the words "occupation" and "invasion".
