Awwww - they look so cuddly and soft I want to reach through the screen and pet them.
That looks like a stand off.
How is little dear, Nermal, this morning? I'm sure you already know this, but if he was in a scrap with another cat, you need to watch him for abscesses from puncture wounds. I had a cat many years ago that nearly died. She had an abscess on her tummy I hadn't noticed. I took her to the vet when she was very listless, not eating, hiding under the bed. Poor kitty. The vet drained it, gave her antibiotics, and she bounced back.
Yes, it's tough. Another glorious shorts and tees day here in the CenTex.
This high pressure dome is giving us some outstanding weather from the Gulf all the way up to Canada.
Way too cute - Yoda demanding some free grooming.
Yes, I'm trying to keep an eye on that spot on his shoulder especially. Is it safe to use Neosporin on a cat? I'm a bit concerned about him licking it. He seems to be feeling some better today. He did get in bed with me last night and this morning, and wanted breakfast this morning, although when I gave him his usual cat food, he just sat there staring at it disdainfully until I spiced it up with some tuna. I think he has recovered from the indignity of the bath, but he is still laying around mopey. He isn't limping this morning though. I can always tell when he isn't feeling well because he sleeps in odd places.
I really don't know if it is safe to use Neosporin on a cat. Does the label say anything about ingesting it? I'll have to dig up my tube. You might try dabbing on a little hydrogen peroxide if you have some - that's a good disinfectant. Of course, the Neosporin is good to keep the wound moist so it heals better. Do you have any emergency vet clinics around that you can call? Can you call a local vet's answering service for advice? I just don't know.
Just keep checking him with your hands to see if there are any abscesses developing where you can't see them.
Yeah. It does say not to ingest it. That is why I was concerned.
I called the emergency number for one of our vets. Not sure how much help he was. He said it was safe to use a little and since he was old, he probably wasn't cleaning himself too good, so licking wouldn't be too much of a concern. HUH?
That might be the weakest medical advice I've ever heard.
Google reveals this:
All wounds are contaminated with dirt and bacteria. Proper care and handling will prevent some infections. Before handling a wound, make sure your hands and instruments are clean. Starting at the edges of a fresh wound, clip the hair back to enlarge the area. Cleanse the edges with a damp gauze or pad. Irrigate the wound with clean tap water. Apply antibiotic ointment. Bandage as described below.
Older wounds covered with pus and scab are cleaned with 3 percent hydro- gen peroxide solution diluted 1 part to 5 parts water. Hydrogen peroxide can damage tissue, so use it only once. Thereafter, cleanse with a Betadine solution (dilute 1 part to 10 parts water). Blot dry. Apply an antibiotic ointment such as Triple Antibiotic Ointment or Neomycin and leave the wound open or bandage as described below.
Dressings over infected wounds should be changed frequently to aid in the drainage of pus and allow you to apply fresh ointment.
Fresh lacerations over 1/2 inch long should be sutured to prevent infection, minimize scarring and speed healing.
Wounds older than 12 hours are quite likely to be infected. Suturing is questionable.
BITES are heavily contaminated wounds. They are often puncture wounds. They are quite likely to get infected and should not be sutured. Antibiotics are indicated. Most wounds incurred in a cat fight are punctures.
With all animal bites, the possibility of rabies should be kept in mind.
HEAL! Nermal.
Happy Hour
An elderly gentleman, in his mid 90's, with hair well groomed, a great looking suit, a flower in his lapel, smelling slightly of a very nice after shave, and presenting a well-cared-for image, walks into an upscale cocktail lounge.
Seated at the bar an elderly lady, mid 80's, also well dressed and attractive is sitting alone.
The gentleman walks over, sits down beside her, orders a drink, takes a sip, turns to her and says, "So tell me, do I come here often?"

I thought you prevented self-torture by not watching the Falcons........
Thanks Loddy. I thought it was pretty weak too. Guess I interrupted his Sunday dinner. He did tell me to cut the hair back. Said nothing of cleaning the wound, although I knew that. Then he said that if I needed antibiotics, I should stop by tomorrow. He didn't say if I should bring the cat. LOL!
......Westy.....
Anyway, so I had to come to the office to report it, so I took advantage of it and got my affadavit out that I would have had to do in the morning, did some documentation and cleared a few piles from my desk. I'm getting a jump on my overtime this week. Guess I'd better be getting back to Nermal.
Good grief - I thought you were all squared away several weeks ago...these guys sound worse than SBC, who I thought were the absolute bottom of the service barrel.
Good luck to you and the Nermz.
When I got home Nermal was complaining for lunch. Always a good sign.
Did you bump into that on you Red Rover?:)
Just found out, my brother's battalion is being mobilized 1/4/2005... He's being promoted from Major to Lt. Colonel in April... so either Iraq or somewhere else in Africa, depending where they need him. I'm going to need some Valium or something to get through this.
Argh - been there myself. Six years ago when I bought my house, QWest screwed me over royally. I practically lost my business because of their incompetence. Eventually, there was a class action lawsuit (and I think I got a few measly dollars) against them by the State, but I will never forgive QWest (now US West). Thousands of others in the SW have horror stories too. It's unbelievable. The topping on the cake was when I ordered one phone from them (right when I moved but before all the problems started), they slipped me two, refused to take the second one back, kept overbilling me for the &#*(&8 phones...
We finally got some competition here about a year ago, and tons of us switched over.
